Correct,

A fresh install of Vista Ultimate with SP1 + MCE beta update will not (at this stage) decode h.264 without the help of third party software. Will display an error message stating "No compatible decoder was found or is not installed correctly".

Same screen blanking issue as already mentioned under DVB-T.  However if you pull up the EPG as an overlay it continues to run finwe with TV underneath forever.  Sounds like a simple problem to fix.
How does the Beta team report these issues and how do new updates get posted?
Of course it would have been nice to be on the beta, but oh well..

On my laptop TV3 works quite well. No screen blanking. THe teletext buttons don't show up so maybe that is the problem.

TV3 recordings playback also but not tv1 or any with teletext.

Bit unstable though but a great start

On the codec issue - no idea whether the RC will include a h.264 codec from MS or not.  Remember its a BETA and we are not necessarily seeing everything released to testers.  MS could go either way ie include/not include in the public release I imagine this will be a commercial rather than technical decision, depending on license fees and US/Europe requirements to have it in as standard.

A new version has been released to testers in the last few days.  Be interesting to see if any progress has been made on the DVB-T side - that is if it makes it down this part of the world anytime soon...

I guess im one of the lucky ones with a copy of Fiji, although I'm not having as much success as you guys are. I have a Nova t dual dvb-t, and Fiji finds the card fine and scans for channels... but it only finds the two Radio channels; Radio New Zealand National & Radio New Zealand Concert. I was able to get and play properly all the channels using MediaPortal. (talk about cumbersome, and I couldnt get the EPG going Embarassed)
These two Radio channels work great though (in Fiji), it magically gets the EPG and everything! But I'm not really into National or Concert... Embarassed

Any ideas? anyone had similar problem? After a read through here I tried changing my region (for the tv settings) to Norway and UK with the same results.

Typically that's the result you get if you try to use a DVB-T receiver from overseas here in NZ.  Seems other countries use mpeg-2 for their DVB-T transmissions and when you try to use one of those receivers here all you get is the radio stations, it can't find any of our TV channels.  Maybe the country settings you select impact on this?

As mentioned earlier, this MCE upgrade really needs both it's own h.264 decoder and support for Bluray as well so it's totally stand-alone.  We're all living in hope with the dream of a stand alone media centre that really can replace a lot of boxes we have sitting under the TV!  Work it hard testers! Cheers.

The only thing that confuses me is that I was able to get all the channels working fine in MediaPortal... Undecided

AFAIK that's all there are on DVB-T, in NZ anyway?

Can get other radio stations on FM if your card has an FM tuner. Have to scan for them separately though?

I was actually after the TV channels, not more radio channels...

So to sum up, in media portal, I am able to setup and view all the DVB-T Freeview channels, in HD (I have a h.264 codec installed). BUT, when I try to setup the same in Vista Media Center (Fiji) it ONLY finds those two radio channels, and not the tv channels.

I have a suspicion my Hauppauge NOVA T 500 is not supported...

Well I think some of us are already there....I know I'm far from the only one

I've now taken out my DVD, CD, DVD HD Recorder and Ipod (CD and DVD were both mid-high end)

Replaced it with this box which is

Media Centre, running Vista HP, DVB-T via GBPVR/XMLTVNZ/Power DVD V8, Music via I-tunes, sound processing via an external Citypulse USB DAC (Digital Audio Converter), CD via I-Tunes as a transport into the DAC, Blu-Ray via a pioneer DVD drive/Power DVD V8.
Also does some photo/home video duties and the occasional web based media stuff.
Has 4 Tuners available, sound routed via the DAC and a class A Pioneer pre into a Plinius 8200P amp, on to a set of Mordaunt-Short 3.5 floor standers. I can really rattle the eaves with this, and what's more, everyone now uses it !!

I think I'm living the dream already??? - thanks to some very clever people (not me)

Hey Jeef3

I have a Novat 500 T DVB-T tuner as well and got all the TV channels with MCE Fiji by chossing Norway and using the default four digit code (think it was something like 0261).  It then scanned which took quite a long time and found all the TV channels.  Now I am coming off Waitara and it may be that its channels match Norway whereas you may have a different transmitter with different frequencies.  There are regsitry hacks for MCE to force it too find NZ frequencies for ordinary MCE so I am sure someone would be able to point you where to look, or be able to supply a REG file to add to your registry for NZ frequencies.
Keep at it...

The Nova T 500 works with the beta, have one sitting here which works just fine...

As someone else suggested it may be the channel freqs - the other thing to try is a reboot directly after the first scan doesn't work - and then try a rescan.  The beta seems to drop the tuner cards for no apparent reason at times.

The channels freq are set in an xml file called channeloverrides.  The current NZ one only includes a few channels.  I was going to play with this - but its an almost pointless exercise until the Release Client...

Rusty, what hardware are you running this with? I'm building a new PC now and was looking at one of the HVR 4000's to do everything with -  do you know if this works?

cheers for the replies guys, its good to hear that the NOVA T does work with Fiji, so hopefully should work fine with the final release.

I'll have a look around (ie; google/search these forums) re those reg hacks. I've currently got everything setup in MediaPortal, including EPG, but it would be nice to use VMC. I just find MP a lil flakey somehow.

Using a pair of HVR-3000's.  Looked at the 4000 but the only thing it offers it DVB-S2, which is highly unlikely to get used in NZ.  From what hear though the 4000 should work ok.

At the moment you can use all off the functions, ie Analog + Digital although the current release will only scan once using the Analog/DVB-T tuning space.  That is you can switch between DVB-S & DVB-T on the fly (albiet with a few hicups on the BETA :)), but not currently Analog to DVB-T.

Also playing around with a Nova T 500 - just to see if it worked which it does.
