A question for some help with.

What are people setting their sound outputs to, PCM or AC3 and in the Apps setting, LPCM or RAW for a connection to a Sound bar?

Cheers

Why are people purchasing this product when its clearly defective and you need to be a total IT geek to get it working?

One could surmise that it's because of the fact that they are "total IT geeks" laughing

Bought mine in December, and finally, after heading off a domestic last night, its been taken back to retailer.  Retailer is insisting on 'return to manufacturer for repair' - Luckily for me they on on a main bus route, because if they try to give it back to me I know where it will end up.

$349 special for the A2 at The Warehouse. Is it worth it?

I still don't know if I should get this with the problems it has at the moment & waiting for a good price drop over time. I see the latest update seems to have smoothed things out? But what's holding me back is not able to side load apps.

I currently have the T2200 which is sluggish.

I have now worked out how to sideload and have managed to sideload the Zattoo App today. Still no luck with Netflix yet. Ours is going ok but perhaps we haven't really put it under any stress yet.

Having the A2 for about 48 hours now I've not had any big problems. The only glitch I've seen is a split second sound skip. I prefer to run PCM sound through my sony home theatre amp as it handles the surround sound quite well & is even volume through all channels.

I've managed to install apps sideloaded off a usb using a file directory off playstore to run the apk & looking at maybe changing the android tv launcher too.

The unit did come with batteries for the remote (not a big thing) as I read earlier here i think about no batteries were supplied so made me think some other changes have been made also? Running a Bluetooth mini keyboard sometimes for selections. Little problem here is the usb dongle is behind the A2 & signal is not so great being 5 meters away also. Just need an extended usb cable to run it around the side.

Running the latest 1.22 firmware at the moment. So far loving it & the speed is not bad at all coming from a T2200.

One wishlist at the moment is if the blue ring could be dulled down a bit more or turned off. Little bit distracting.

The unit did go back from where it came from. Got a full refund. Went looking on the net and found that the original unit that had served for over 5 years was still in production the "homecast ht9200dtr myfreeview|hd" ordered it on line did the bank transfer and a week later it was up and running in my mothers house she is so happy it does what was advertised and still does. No technical far7ing about Ok it is like comparing a toaster to a oven where the toaster just makes toast and the oven can make toast and make other things but you have to be more attentive to the oven or things get burnt!

The I know that the returned units never get fixed faulty or not. I did take a video of what the thing was doing before I took it back showed it to the shop staff and they where going WTF and it was behaving like the previous one as this was a replacement and the only function my Mother cared about was the live TV features and that is why it went back, who knows a bad bit of code and a memory leak combined with a slightly subpar memory address just enough for it to work but not enough for it to be reliable.

What urkes me the most is 30 ish years ago I was doing this as part of a highly trained team of technicians that was contracted out at what would have been $100~$200 per person per hour. When I checked up on my notes I had around 40 hours of billable time... the unit had exceeded its value and was costing more in time that I could have been actually making money. The time lost with this infernal device ment I nearly did not fulfill my own contract obligations for four weeks in January which left me tired and grumpy something that us 50 year olds do not to be (unless we want to be known as grumpy old men!).

Sitting back and reflecting on the saga either the unit was not ready for production or the replacement unit was actually a bad unit in the batch of good ones. The best thing is now I don't care. I don't think I could even bother about posting the video to youtube and I know it would get some  views... any way Im keeping on watching this thread.

Your contract is with the Retailer NOT the manufacturer.

If the box isn't functioning to reasonable expectations then it up to the retailer to provide an adequate remedy (ie repair/replace/refund).

You shouldn't have to deal with the manufacturer yourself.

It might be a good idea to read up on the Consumer Goods Act. smile

I don't think nzmatt is saying the retailer is telling him to deal with manufacturer but rather they want to send it back for repairs instead of straight refund.

It would also be good idea to know the law too. I think you mean the Consumer Guarantees Act, not the Consumer Goods Act. :P

Yep, know how the CGA works.

The retailer is sending back to the manufacturer, which means I have to wait for the manufacturer to return it as NFFF, the Retailer will then try to charge me for the courier and handling fees. I will let you know how the story ends....

Starting to regret not videoing the problems I was having before I took it back.

If you are getting the odd sound glitch or picture shift on the A2, here's a tip that may REDUCE this. I have noticed less glitches but some may not.

I mostly watch Three so I don't know how this works with other channels.

Go into the android settings to which may or may not be relevant but I have currently set are:

[Sound]

System Sounds: Off

HDMI Output: Auto

HBR Degrade Output: Auto

[Display]

Enforce 3d Framepacking Output: Disabled

[Advanced Options] [Display]

TV HDR Mode: AUTO

and the biggy….

HDCP: Slider to OFF/DISABLE

[About] RESTART (for good measure)

i'm not much of a techy guy but I had a go.
