It shouldn't make a difference as recording is from the broadcast, independent of On-Demand service. I suggest you contact DishTV for support on this.

Minanz: Help, just switched to freeview and so far I'm regretting it. When I first setup the box I series linked a few programs, but it has only recorded the first 3 days of having the box and since then nothing. When I go to the recording manager it says the recorder is turned on for the episode and its scheduled. However the episode isn't available to watch, I'm also unable to live pause. If I change anything I get a message telling me the recording has ended. I've tried everything and I'm ready to get rid of the box!

Does it matter if the episode isn't available on On Demand?

Check to see you are on the latest Firmware Ver 1.23 as it sounds like problems we used to have till this version came out. Also Try pulling the power out from the back for 10 Seconds and it will do a full reboot.

To find the Version, push "Menu" on the Remote, then go to the far right to "Settings", at the bottom "Advance Settings", then the bottom again to "System Info" and it is on the right.

That is what I was getting over 2~3 months ago the unit went back as in refund, The tech support said that also with the units software upgrade for the same problem the hard drive needed to be formatted twice so it was in the correct format for the software. I made a video as a review/documentation of the problem that at the end of February ended up on YouTube. My beef of the unit was for a 75 year old mother to use it was too damn complicated with all the resets and formatting of drives for her to use I had to baby sit the thng, when it worked it was great, when it faulted it was not obvious that it was in no hard drive mode! search for  "Dish TV Super Box A2 two month review." and you should find it. This unit was not ready for shipping and using for average consumers! and then to pay approx $500ish for it a unit that seemed to be somewhere between alpha and beta development was not on especially if you looked at the adverts one could say "Not as Advertised" which under the CGA is not a good place to be!

Good video, the issues raised are the exact same issues I am experiencing.  I will try a power off reboot when I get home to see if that helps.  I am yet to hear back from Dish TV but I have heard from the store I purchased it from and they are happy to replace it.  Can anyone recommend another recorder which works well?

I'd also be interested in a good alternative if there is one. I'd just like a good freeview box that can record multiple channels at once.

I have found fix for the software problems this Dish TV box is having.  Upgrade it to the Panasonic software, but you also need to upgrade the hardware to Panasonic.

Other alternates I thought of but did not try, that might have more or less success than those already suggested in the very long and repetitive thread are:

1) Stand on you left foot with you right little finger in you left hand nostril and prey to your deity for three hours.

2) Buy one of these remote control power adapters so you don't wear out the power connector in the back of the Dish TV and can reboot it without getting out of your lazyboy.

3) Wait for version 1.57  and let other fools do the testing Dish TV should have done before they released it.

I admit maybe I am being a bit harsh on Dish TV. The Panny box, which I have had for two weeks now,  does have a bit of an old and quirky interface, but it just works, does what it says it does on the box, every time, like it should.   I do not believe that is asking too much for a $450 consumer device.

Get a TiVo and be done with it, there's nothing that comes close to it, all those other units(Panasonic, dish are rubbish)
Stream from your smart TV and record freeview with the best recorder available.

If all you want is recording, a modded TiVo, with a new hard disk (they are around 10 years old now and the disk is recording 2 channels 24/7.....) might be worth considering at the right price. The Panny UI is not as good, but good enough once you are used to it.

Question for those who know alot more about this box than I do... would a new power adapter possibly fix our problems?  It has been suggested by the manufacture maybe power adapter is not providing enough power for the hdd.

So is dish TV supplying the adaptor or do you have to pay for it? It's no good if the one supplied doesn't work, send the thing back and get a refund and then buy a TiVo, problem solved.

They are sending me one.  I have until Saturday to decide if I return this box.  Where do you buy a Tivo from in NZ?

Check out the TiVo forums here

And of course keep a look out on trademe they usually come up, and you can buy a unmodified one and have it modded by a few people from right here on geekzone.

Well a reboot didn't help. Only some of the programs I have booked have recorded.
