Jaxson: News today that freeview has some PVR's in the nearby lineup and that a new scheduling EPG has been developed.  Hopefully there's scope to eventually incorporate this into the ET box?

Where did you hear this news and are there more details please?

Hi Peter - I've been waiting for the HDD recording feature to be added, and it's not coming quickly enough.   I've waited almost as long for a re-working clock and that too isn't coming quickly enough.  The digital connection is still dropping out, sure less often - but still happening.

So Peter, you've posted here that you stand behind your product and if anyone isn't happy to return the unit to you.  I bought my ET box from one of your suppliers (freeviewshoponline - great bunch of people) just before the olympics.  I suspect this is too long after the fact for them to accept the return through thier normal cause of business...  So, let me know your address and where we go to next.   I can send you through my transaction details with freeviewshoponline.   Or if you just want to let them know it's coming and sort it out through them, I don't know?

So I'm going back to my satellite, shame as picture quality on the ET DTT box is
superb...

Cheers,
matt.

Hi Matt
I wouldn't be too much of a hurry to ditch your ET.  There are units out there like the Strong and Vantage that have PVR at up to twice the price but can only record now and next. The ET will soon be able to to do this, but the ET will do more than all of these once MHEG5 releases the new PVR program extensions probably not now to early next year.  The time and the PVR function are still being worked on.

You cant hurry some of these things.  At least ET does provide updates and is the best current choice.  Be patient.  There is no perfect receiver out there otherwise I would have bought it

Yeah, you're quite right Garglo, but my partner tells me if she has to reboot it one more time it'll be an actual boot it gets...

And well, I think returning is the best thing I can do to help all of you out.  Start acting rather than speaking and all that...   I don't see that the updates are completely addressing the issues, digital still drops out, clock isn't worth the time of day (pun intended).   It's a TV reciever not Vista. ;-)  Fixes should be fixes, not almost.

I am very happy with my Draco. Stop slagging other products, this is not a commercial forum but a discussion forum, or am I in the wrong place.

It just seems to be a little in bad taste to come here and bag the other units.  If only the quality of your box could speak for itself?

Anyway, you are going to give mattstutter his money back, right?

NZRobin: So how about this Hauppauge HD-PVR for the ET. The ET can output HD from components cant it? Or is the H.264 AVCHD video encoder wrong for NZ?

It would work with appropiate software but is nothing but a waste of money here in NZ which is why they aren't available here (yet). Why spend hundreds buying a Hauppauge box to plug between the component output and a PC when you can buy a dual tuner TV card for substancially less?

The Hauppauge HD-PVR is more suited to countries like the USA where people can get HD out of their STB's (such as DirecTV) and want a way to record this content. It seems rather pointless as a way to record Freeview|HD content in NZ when any DVB-T TV card will do that for you for a lot less and with more features such as recording all channels on the same MUX with a single tuner if you're using GB-PVR or Media Portal?

I would love to hear about the so called problems with the Vantage?? It also doesn't just record now and next that is all that is transmitted via EIT Schedule you can still use the reservation section to record anything you want.

Also the new EPG won't be made available to the non myFreeview|HD boxes anyway, and also are you going to distribute a new PVR remote to all units sold?

with advent of TVNZ's new mheg5, only existing certified freeview importers are being allowed access to the new stream and specs.
One would wonder if this could fall into the market control area...interesting for the commerce commission...!!

Units without the new mheg5 will not have proper PVR features....If no mheg5, like the vantage...then its a very micky mouse unit...!!

we have heard that the sommet has some major probs...freezes up after two days...one importer has cancelled a deal due to this...come from same factory as the haute...perhaps this has some issues too?
we tested a sommet, and have its freeview test report here.../god knows how it ever got approved...in our opinion...just a pile of rubbish...
