I've emailed the manufacturer asking specifically about the ET PVR update.  If I hear anything I'll let you guys know.

RustyViewer: Pete isn't here because Rex Radio & TV helped him to see the light. He now realises he is importing a substandard product. He clearly doesn't have much technical knowhow, but is a salesman who was huffing, puffing and blustering until he learnt some actual facts about just what he was selling.


  Gone for good?  I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that one!

  The next step is to get a refund after Feb when the PVR update fails to arrive on time. . . . again

THIS IS ... I TOLD YOU SO.

I mentioned in September to not expect PVR on the ET till this year some time.  REALITY the MHEG5 firmware upgrades were delayed for release. While Zinwell may have been the first release in this country of the PVR MHEG5, you will note that it is bug ridden. Also the My SKY was bug ridden. Dont hold your breath that the ET PVR wont have problems when it comes.   Such is the pressure on the poor chinese workers these days to deliver something to a deadline they dont even have time to fully test it for 6 months before release.

To be honest I dont think some manufacturers have got the PVR MHEG5 firmware because of the big $$$  involved and the cronyism clobbering protection machine. 

Some suggest that they have found who manufactures the ET (they could be right).  Note on the site it doesnt mention with MHEG5.  Note many manufacturers buy designed boxes from box suppliers.  I have noted about 4 manufacturers which use the same box casing.

Remain calm  . . . .  HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE is bad for you.   My ET works fine NO PROBLEMS.

Personally I do not want the PVR function on it. Rather leave alone and not change while not broken. Anyway there is nothing I want to record with HD quality being broadcast.  I just use my DVD/HDD recorder.  Some excellent bargains out there.

smac: Gadget, we are in complete agreement about Pete's obligations regarding the units he has sold. Given the descriptions people have given of issues, I can't believe people still have them.

Not everyone has a problem with it though.  I'd like the PVR function to work, but I knew when I bought it that it might be a pipedream.  About the only issue I have is occasional dropout over coaxial.  HDMI is perfect and I don't watch many of the shows in 5.1 anyway.  For the price I paid, I'd say it was good value.  Maybe I got lucky?

See to me that's not good enough - would you tolerate a TV that dropped audio every now and again for no known reason? Or an AV amp? *shrug* Maybe you would, maybe it's just me.

My ET works fine NO PROBLEMS.
Man this is rude, and you sound like Pete.  Many of us do have problems with the box.  There's a list of about 7 things, and many of us have a couple.  For me it's audio drop outs, random hangs and the clock still varies over time and I need to reboot every 4 days or so to correct this.  I'm glad you have no probems, good for you.

And by the way, it does mention MHEG5 on that site, it's #4 on the features list.

Guys - try contacting satlinkNZ and see if you can get a refund.   It's not meeting your needs...    I returned mine about 5-6 months after I bought it and somoene (pete perhaps) refunded my purchase cost.
Nothing like refunding folks to encourage a little more action huh?

Its been fascinating browsing through the ET manufacturers website. They feature a couple of recent releases of stb's with pvr via usb.

Given that these are so new its not surprising that an upgrade for an older model is still pending.  Peters only fault is his optimism as far as I can see. This of course translates into frustration for the rest of us wanting to be the first on the block with the new toy. I too have redundant HDD's awaiting for a new life.

Whenever I have spoken to Pete he has been very helpful and very obliging. A borrowed upgrade to my antenna from the flat panel has improved my reception. Still not absolutely perfect, pixellation is still there on odd occassions. Freeviewshop have suggested that I go to the next level with a high gain antenna. So if I have another improvement it would be clear to me that reception problems are 90% of the issues with the ET box.

BTW has anyone actually spoken or emailed  Pete about their issues?

  Pete has been active on this board for quite a period of time.  He is fully aware of the issues that we are experiencing and our frustratons with the box.

  Have a look over the last 10 pages or so.

Last promise he made to me was 17th and it isn't up today. I brought mine through Trademe 10 days ago, advertised as having PVR so will ask for my money back on that basis.

  Get a hard copy of that page.  It might come in useful later on.

  I've emailed him a couple of times as well to try and get updates.
