I'm going to reinstall the pre PVR firmware and see if this fixes it.
I think you will find you cant roll it back - Even the freeviewshop website now says it cant be reversedFrown

Serious?! Man this is p$$ng me off now.

Sorry dude.... I gave up on the ET and bought a Zinwell about a month ago. My ET pixelated and rebooted like crazy. I thought the "new" firmware was a bit more stable in that respect but there are of course other problems. The Zinwell seems to have no problems at all - wish I had bought one from day one.... Menus much faster than the ET and no pixelation.

There doesnt seem to be any indication there will ever be any other releases for the ET either - which is pretty shocking.

If you look on this Zinwell thread http://forum.dtvforum.co.nz/showthread.php?t=304&page=46 you can even see that folk have downloaded an alternate firmware from Honk Kong that gives the Zinwell record function and even live pause apparently. Havent been game to give it a shot - doesnt look especially risky though, but there is a rumour the software may be made available locally (when?)  - but I have downloaded all the bits you need and wrote myself a tutorial for the future in case I get bored.

Posted in another forum (and its true - I checked their website):

"I just noticed that the PVR firmware is no longer available on the Freeviewshop website - only Nov 21st version remains. Not sure if this suggests a new version is coming or they have dropped it altogether! "

Maybe I only imagined there was ever a PVR software release.......................................

Right tried coax out to receiver last night. TV3 was fine (though had to go back to menu and set output from PCM to AC3 to get Dolby to work). TV3 has always been fine for me though. Tried C4 and it was a lot better than it has been. Maybe there were some improvements on the digital out issue in the PVR firmware.

Put box back into normal place hooked up to TV via hdmi lead only, no receiver. TV3 has definitely got some audio stuttering going on over hdmi. Tried stuff but nothing really fixed it. Went to TV1 and back etc. Ironically it only seems to be on TV3's mpeg audio stream. When you set to dolby on TV3 it's fine, though at a lower volume level as has been discussed. Must check if there's a bypass option still to select dolby when it's present.

Let us know if you find out a way to do this.  Seems to me the ET default has changed in the PVR release from dolby (when present) to mpeg.

Nah, had a look last night and it appears the Bypass option has disappeared from the menus with the PVR version.  You have to no manually select the dolby option on TV3 if you want it, and of course you have to do this to get the 5.1 signal if you're connected to a receiver.

The silence is deafening.  I'm pretty sure he knows he has a lemon of a product and he just wants to unload them on any unsuspecting punters.

You'll notice on his Trademe listings he is now based out of Whangerei, he is no longer advertising them as Extraterrestrial units, and there is absolutely no mention of PVR features.

Says a LOT doesn't it.

The ET appears dead. No mention of it as a product on any of the satlinknz or freeviewnz.com websites, only gets a mention under support with links to the Nov 08 firmware.

Absolutely no idea.  All I got from him was an attachment and the words "Try this".
