Just to let people know I finally resolved the issue where my HVR-2200 tuner was causing my PC to freeze

See this locked post:

I am running VISTA SP1 on a Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H MB with at GT8600 card in a fusion black case.

Every time I tried to watch freeview (DVB-T) or analog on this card the system froze & I had to reboot the PC.

The issue is that the HVR-2200 does not work in the PCI x1 slot on th GA-MA78GM-S2.
If I take out the video card (thus use the on-board video) and put the PCI 16x slot the card runs fine!!!

Bloody annoying as I now have to decide what I should do - by a new MB or ditch the graphics card.

At least it works I suppose

the HVR200 is a x1 card, the board must  be faulty. You NEED the 8600GT if you want to watch freeview HD.

Just another update - I have tried a replacement 2nd Gigbyte MB and it too has the same issue - I can only run the HRV-2200 on the 16x slot. I have read of a very few other people have had the same issues with GA78 boards as well. There seems to be a combatability problem with this card and the Gigabyte mATX boards.

PC Gear here in Dunedin have ben great giving me new cards and MB's to try. They have now offered to take the HRV-2200 back and swap it for a PCI NOVA-T 500. I cannot say enough nice things about them.

I have an Asus P5Q Intel P45 mobo and my hvr-2200 card freezes after a while. Could be a compatibitlity issue between mobo and tuner card or might just be faulty tuner card? I bought the card from computer lounge and have asked them for help few days ago but havnt heard back from them yet.

Try the card in the 16X slot and see how it runs.
I found that with first MB the card would scan channels fine with DVBviewer (but not any other program - eg mediaPortal, VMC etc) and crash the PC after 2-3 seconds when playing broadcasts on DVBviewer. All other programs crashed when scanning channels.
Using the second replacement  MB the card would work for about 30 seconds with Dvbviewer before crashing.  Never tried the card with any other program the second time round. I might try playing a little more after work on Thursday to see if I can fault it some more but I fairly sure that the MB/card combo is dodgy. I have a NOVA-T 500 card coming in and will collect that on the weekend.

Just to Clarify:

My HRV-2200 runs fine in the 16x slot but I had all the issues with the 1x PCI-E slots. If the card works in the 16x slot then I would say it is either the MB at fault (I never had another PCI-E card to test the 1x slot with but failing on 2 different MB would mostly rule this out though - not a high chance 2 MB faulty), or a werid conflict with the MB and card.

Lots of people have HRV-2200 working fine on Gigabyte MB's in general I am sure but this board and this card don't work for me.

I also have a hvr-3000 and that works great with my mobo. Plays freeview fine all the time and never crashes. Mayb it's the pci 1x slot that's faulty? I cant test it in the 16x slot because my HD4850 is in their. Still waiting to here back from computer lounge for help.
