Why does it cost 1 million bucks to pay someone to read lines? Maybe that's the underlying issue.

Go and watch the local repertory theatre, and then go and watch a professional show....

Whether its worth a million is debatable,

But a professional newsreader usually has the skills to make reading the phone book appear interesting....

They could have anything read the lines and half their audience would stay watching for their 6pm reheat of the days events disguised as staying informed. Some of them are in a near vegative state in nursing homes and its part of their ritual so nothing will change it.

For $1million, couldn't we get Morgan Freeman to read the news?

But, diversity............

What possible defence can TVNZ have for 100% of the presenter being white middle-aged (boomer) male?

The more interesting question is why retain either of them? If the intention is to cut costs then why not make both of them redundant and star fresh with a new team.

I doubt Morgan Freeman would fart on cue for you for that amount of money.

I wonder if Ron Burgundy is available?

I think the reduction of 2 anchors to 1 is the problem here...tvnz tried it once before, people don't like it.  It needs the ability to swap between two presenters.  It adds a bit to it, rather than just the solo voice (which is what they have in the weekends with Melissa Stokes)

I think you'll find most major overseas national news programs only have one presenter and it's been successful  forever.  Why we have to have a tweedle dum and tweedle dee here is beyond me apart from  their egos.

The term should be banned here entirely. It's a stupid wildly insulting term.

Hey, I watch the news most nights. Not because it is any good, but because it is all there is. Then I switch to ABC and watch some real news. But they don't mention NZ very often.

If TV One would quit shelling out for Ubers to ferry people around for completely pointless live crosses, they could afford to pay another newsreader.
