Eva888: Simplest option I’ve found to have free to air channels is Dish TV SmartVU which will give you streaming and TV via Internet no aerial needed. Apple TV won’t give you live free to air channels, only streaming.

I have bought a second Dish Smart Vu for a spare room to connect to a really old Samsung regardless that the the first one bought was a bit glitchy. I just can’t find any other simple to use option. Worst case is you need to power cycle it to reset. Otherwise, it has everything you need including access to Play Store to download apps, Netflix and YouTube have dedicated buttons.

It probably is the easiest for live TV - but any android TV (mi box etc) can be set up for live TV (via the live tv app in conjunction with tvirl).
Can use Matt Huisman sources for the feed.
Not sure about apple tv - but I'd be surprised if it couldn't be set up with the same functionality via an app or two.

I already have an Android streaming box set up with Kodi and Matt H but, it’s not a simple solution for someone that just wants to turn on the TV and start watching, it needs some level of expertise. I’ve set one up for an older person to watch foreign channels and she is always calling up because it crashed or something pops up that needs attention or the EPG is not functioning and it over heats because she doesn’t long press to shut it down etc etc.

Apple TV apps are limited and their play store doesn’t have Kodi. There are PVR apps but again too complicated for mere mortals to set up.

Thanks guys. Can’t really be bothered with kodi etc. I ended up buying an Apple TV 4K yesterday and really like it. The wife acceptance factor is super high and fyi you CAN stream live TV straight from the TVNZ and ThreeNow apps. That’s all we wanted it for really. It’s a shame to have the “smarts” in our Samsung tv go to waste but I have to say the UI of the Apple TV is nothing short of amazing, so I’m coaxing wifey to go exclusively to it for everything - Netflix, neon etc too. Meanwhile I can pull down the chimney / UHF antenna finally!

Sky go will allow prime as well even if not a sky customer. I highly recommend dns4me as well for overseas content, very simple on Apple tv

Just purchased one of these and works fine apert from the fact that my Sony TV seems to set itself to HDR picture setting regardless of the content being streamed from this device , Is there something I am missing with my settings ? My Firestick seems to behave as expected and TV only changes to HDR when the content is .

I switched from SmartVU to Mi TV because of aforemntioned glitches and it has been running much better except with TVNZ On Demand, when I'm watching it will suddenly say "Something went wrong, retry or restart app". If I keep pressing retry it goes away and the show continues sometimes; other times it freezes and I have to restart the app. It appears to get confused when I wake from sleep mode with the TVNZ app still open; also if I have only partly watched something which is over an hour long, when I go back to it, it casues problems. Even clearing the cache and restaring the stick hasn't cleared up the problem today. It is only happening with the TVNZ app, not anything else I access but I don't ave subscription services so I don't know if it would affect those.

Anyone using the SV11 Ethernet Adapter Cable?

I asked on Geekzone elsewhere, but replies were limited.

I would like to know your experience with it, also why they need to sell it with a power adapter as it look like you plug the SV11 into it and when I bought the SV11 it came with an adapter?

I use both a mi Box S and a Mi TV stick and have never seen this with the TVNZ app (which I use reasonably frequently)
Is your device fully up to date? TVNZ app up to date?
If you can't fix it try a factory reset

I've just discovered that WMM was disabled and apparently it is important to enable it for streaming so I have. Do you think that will make the difference?

After purchasing this device I have been through all the settings and it seems there is no way to prevent it forcing its output to HDR or at least making it auto detect, the resulting picture quality is not great for anything that should be SDR . I know its a relatively cheap device but it makes it pretty much useless for most content that's not HDR .

Not sure how long this feature has been available on the SV, but I noticed today that you can set the remote buttons to control your TV/soundbar etc via CEC. Pretty sure I didn't notice that when I first set it up.

I just got one of these for my inlaws who had Vodafone TV but that is being shut down in Sept.

They seem very happy and have worked out how to use it very quickly as it is not to different from Vodafone TV.

Pretty straight forward setup and everything just seemed to work pretty much out of the box which was great.
