If the drive is formatted FAT32, than the max filesize is 4GB (minus 1byte). Smile

File size limit on FAT32 is ((2^32) -1) = 4GB. I assume that the software on the 811 is cutting it off at a safe size, ie not approaching the limits too closely.

Just got my hands on the 811u. I have a problem though. I am using it with a LG lcd tv and when i use the volume on the LG tv remote, it changes the channel on the digistar receiver. Several other buttons also conflict....

Can anyone think of a solution? I have never come across this before but assume many others will strike this problem as LG are a reasonably big brand. Any secret way of reprograming the digistar remote? :P

The dreaded remote conflict! I had a bit of that with my Philips TV (which I think is closely related to the LGs), but I also have a Harmony remote to control them both (as well as a heap of other stuff). Seems to sort out the conflict - but I don't know how!

I'll get another unit I think and move that one into the bedroom, the conflict is just too annoying :)

On another note, the LG tv has freeview built into it and I can press the sub button and get the subtitle stream.

When using the digistar whenever i press the sub button it just says "no subtitle"

Is that a bug? or its not supported by this unit? or its not supported by satellite freeview?

Anyone know if the Digistars are related to the STRONG SRT4300? They sure look similar, although no scart at the back. Similar specs. Hmmm....

OK - I have finally got around to purchasing one of these units and should have it in a day or two. I want to set up up for a twin satellite system using either a dual lnb or plate holder for two lnbs. however, the infamous Cordlessman (pete) on trademe has suggested that the diseqc on these units are fake and don't work. Can anybody confirm if it works or not?

for only two lnbs you can use a cheap/simple 22khz tone switch regardless.

Well, well, well. Now that I am aware of the timer-recording issues discussed earlier, I'm actually finding that this is a reliable litle unit.

One annoyance - does anyone know if the time-slip feature can happen so that I can start watching a programme WHILE it is recording - I know this can be done during a manual record, but can't get it working during a TIMER record?

I have 2 of these and also Dual LNB for D1 and D2, i bought a 3 input and 4 output Satelite Multi Switch, cost me $44.95 but it was nice and easy and works sweet as......this way i can watch 2 different channels / satelite at any one time, alternative cheaper way ended up costing more as you need splitters etc (i learnt the hard way cheap not always best...lol)

Finally sorted out my reception problems... I should know better but I went by the details on the Dishpointer website and turns out that the 15 degrees LNB skew they recommend does not appear to apply to the 90 cm Dish TV dish that I bought.

It had +/-  20 degrees marked on the LNB so I turned it while checking level with basic satellite finder and figured that going past 20 degrees wasn't going to get any better. That put the LNB connector at about 4 o'clock.

When TV3 started to drop out last week I repeaked the azimuth and elevation but had low Q on the menu from the receiver. I tried turning the LNB while watching the Q on the TV and found that it was max with the connector at about 6 o'clock - it was Ok previously on some transponders (~50%) but 20% or less on others - once retuned it was at least 50% on both Freeview transponders and I now get all the channels (e.g. TVNZ 6 and 7 that I was missing before). I guess I was picking some up from the wrong polarization previously...

Just got one of these units today..... the manuals lacking a bit...

But wondering exactly (in English :) ) how to use the timer recording ? Ive gone into the EPG, hit Timer Record for a show I want later - is that it ? Or do i need to set another option in there ?

Tried setting it to record Malcom in the Middle at 6pm and it switched to that channel but didnt record anything. So a bit lost.....

Ill keep playing for now anyway... overall Im happy with the unit so far, it gives us Prime which weve missed for a long time!!!

Oh, btw, Im running a WD Elements 160GB USB2 HDD and it seems to run fine with the Digistar - jsut mentioning as some other queries Ive seen are about these units actually supporting HDD instead of a "stick".

Here's the way i do it......
Select the program and hit the red button "Timer Setting"
Scroll down to Recorder Set and change to On
Hit the yellow button for Reserve.
Quit

Hope that helps.
