TheOrganist: Just found that the unit doesn't switch channel automatically UNLESS it is recording! Just in the timed programme area, you can say "start time only" but set the recorder to off. Doesn't work.

It looks like "Recorder Set" and "Timer Control" variables are mismatched in "Timer settings" in the same way as the time intervals. For example, if in the later timer the recorder set will be off, the previous setup number will not start recording.

I hit a problem last night... 3 shows to record... Family Guy at 7 on c4, Harpers Island C4 at 8.30, then some show on Prime at 9.30.
Only got Harpers Island at 8.30.

Its probably as someone said earlier though, if one of the shows is longer than the rest, set it last to record..... I set it first. Will try again with something tonight and see how it goes - apart from the recording bugs Im still happy with the unit :)

For anyone who uses Snow Leopard and wants to watch recordings from their Digistar 811U directly in Quicktime there's a free MPEG2 plug in details on here http://www.absolutepresence.com/2009/09/mpeg-quicktime/
It also allows you to Share (export) the recording directly to iTunes and therefor iPod or Apple TV. Very easy indeed.

Well continuing my saga for anyone who's interested - my goal is to have the Digistar change channel at set times so that my OTHER DVD recorder can record from the Digistar - I don't trust the HDD recorder attached to the Digistar :)

1) Select "Start time" without having "recorder" turned on. My goal was to have this change the channel at the set time and leave it on that channel until told to change by another timed programme. This doesn't work because only the LAST timed "start time" of all of them works.

2) Set timed programmes to record 1 minute of each programme onto the Digistar's HDD (using a start and stop time) - thereby changing the channel. THAT works effectively, except that the programmes record CONTINUOUSLY onto the Digistar's HDD - i.e. timed in for one minute but record for hours and hours and hours......... and hours..... SO, that's not going to work!

3) Set a "start and stop" time (5 minutes apart) for each timed programme, but turn "off" the Digistar's recorder option at the bottom. THAT appears to be the solution... Channels change okay and not recording on Digistar's HDD... BUT - OH no! The "stop" time TURNS OFF the entire Digistar, so all that gets recorded on by DVD recorder is BLANK after the first five minutes.

4) TODAY - I have pulled out the Digistar's HDD and gone back to option 2. THAT looks like it's working at last. The "end" time doesn't turn off the Digistar like option 3 and the channels change successfully. What a pity that this is such a rag-tag unit with such poor software and NO backup support by the invisible company making it. If it wasn't so damn CHEAP (i.e. didn't cost much), I'd be getting ANGRY! :)

Wonder if TiVO supports Satellite?

Build yourself a media pc with 2 satt tuners in it, you will be able to record _every_ freeview channel simultaneously and do lots of other cool stuff.. far better than tivo or any other offerings.

Hey, look. I WOULD be the keenest in the world to do that, except that I don't like the idea of a grunty computer running 24/7.

And not everyone has the funds to build such a machine.... ie: me.
Love to run a PC in the lounge again but an Xbox and Digistar was a cheaper option @$180 over a year :)

Re xpd: I might start getting a FAQ/Troubleshooting guide together... nice little units but poorly documented :)

That would be great as I suspect collectively we have assembled the most comprehensive knowledge base on this wee box. How is it going?

farcus: I would assume that this is the manufacturer - http://dgstb.com/

Good theory but the signs are not good. I emailed the address shown on the site, but no reply after three weeks. The logo looks different, and they don't seem to have a PVR on show, Love to find the manufacturer - this box is so close.
