A guy (not a Kiwi)has come up with the following one line command (invoking VLC) to convert our AAC-HE LATM audio to AAC-LE

vlc infile.ts :sout=#transcode{acodec=mp4a,ab=192,channels=2,samplerate=48000}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ts,dst="outfile.ts"}} -I dummy

I have tried it out. Since it doesn't transcode the video it runs fairly quickly - on my lowly PVR which is a Sempron 3000, it takes about 15 minutes for an hour of video.

Works well enough except for me, since I apparently have less than idea reception, the recorded programmes have many CRC, frame errors which don't cause problems in playback (a bit of pixallation etc.) but causes havoc with vlc. Occasionally it will terminate early and not convert the entire file.

Would be interested in other member's experiences using this tool.
