Hi guys. I am new to Geekzone. I bought the magic tv pvr today and am very pleased with it so far. The unit had the November firmware installed,so i very quickly upgraded to the Feb 2010 version.
I did notice though, that the volume level decreased after doing this,so i turned it up Now when i go back to regular tv viewing, i have to hurriedly turn the volume down to avoid deafening myself. Is there any way a future firmware upgrade could include a separate volume slider for the unit?

kiwidownunder: I think you may try changing the setting of Sound Level in Magic TV and see if it helps.

My last 3 already say off.

Recording, Playback, Timeshift OSD Logo off.

Pushed the live TV button to exit this time. See what happens.

No. It's still the same

" Starting Recording.....will finish at...."

katipo: Does anyone else have problems skipping adverts. Fast forwarding and rewinding is really erratic. I know some features are crippled, but am not sure what part of this is purposely affected and what part is just poor implementation. I find little difference between 4x -> 32x, and the time-code update is really sluggish and intermittent.

Also, I quite often notice that at certain points in the recording, if you FF or FR over a position the playback position will jump forward or back by a massive amount then continue to cycle back to that loop again. This is without bookmarks or markers. Really annoying.

The only thing that works consistently is the skip buttons, but 10 mins is far too coarse to be really useful. It sometimes gets me over a stuck position, but anything over 2x will cause the large skip again.

Yep mines the same.

I've an old Philips HDRW 720 PVR and you can change the "skip" forward and back times to simple jump. Mines set at jump forward 3:55 and jump back 0:10 (NZ ads are normally 4 mins). I've a newer Philips PVR which like the magic TV box you have to fast forward, although it does work smoothly not like the magic TV box which is rubbish at FF and FR. I've also found that it will loop around for a few seconds before atually starting to rewind.

My solution is to quickly look at the time as I start to FF through the adds and add on 4 minutes in my head. When I see this minute come up another single press changes from 32x to play. Seems to work most of the time, but not as good as my old PVR where I never had to watch any ads.

This spoils a great device. Oh apart from hanging and freezing about once a week. What I do now if it's not recording when we go to bed I switch it off and on with the main switch so it get a reboot. Perhaps it runs Windows?

What about audio sync overnight. I suffer that problem, a toggle of the channel fixes it. But it shouldn't happen...Should it???

Hi, Have purchased a magic 3600 as a result of reading forums etc and deciding it to be the best of the bunch for me. It is a shame about the freeview certification rules though.
Like many others I am having the same issues with FF / FR.
I have set up an add skip of 3 mins 50 sec on my harmony remote but due to the erratic FF it FF's a different distance into the recording every time. Same problem with the .9 firmware so upgraded to .11. No difference.
Other than that it is working very well.
Have been hoping Magic TV will have a new release to cures this soon. ??

Hi I have had a Magic TV for about a month and last night I turned it on and had no TV3 channels or Prime only TVNZ. I turned it off and back on still just TVNZ. I have 80% signal and 100% quality. I checked the RF signal meter thingy and checked channel 33 and 45 and the signal was there. Suddenly the lost channels came back, this has happened once before, its like it does not save the settings, quite wierd. The Magic TV is great when it works. I am in Auckland in the Mt Eden area.

this can happen if you are recording two programs at once say a tv3 program and a prime prog then the tvnz mux will be unavailable untill the recordings are finished .
