Rosswakelin have you tried doing a cold boot, i.e. turning the magic box off with the switch at the back and then turning it on again so that it reloads the firmware.  I had a similar problem once when I had a weak aerial signal and this sorted it.  Have since added a signal booster to my aerial circuit.

Yep I had tried the hard reboot.

But....it seems I was maligning the Magic unit.

Further checking this morning showed that my mast head amp had failed,
but only on the UHF band, VHF was still ok.
Taking the amp out of the circuit restored service on the Magic, but with
degraded signal (which was to be expected).  I will get a new amp this
afternoon, and all should be good again.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

casewindow: I just picked one of these units up today. I am trying to understand what the unit does if you choose to record a show (or series) and the time changes. It says in the manual that the unit 'constantly checks for changes to scheduled times & for recording overlaps' (paraphrased)...

Does this mean if I choose to record a series, and one day the episode has a different time - does the unit take care of that?

I know there is extend start & stop times as well - does this effectively mean that you have to use these as a buffer because schedule changes are not catered for?

I would just recommend that, if you haven't already done so, you at least make sure you are running the latest firmware from www.magictv.co.nz

Of course you may choose to run the beta firmwares many of us are running, but beta=test so if you want to be sure it all works as it should use the latest released firmware.

Py99ajh: Thanks all for your help and suggestions!! Maybe I'll try the beta firmware to see if it cures my recording skipping problems before taking the leap of sending it back! Cheers

So did it cure it? Especially now we have a 10min forward 6min back?

evanh: Regarding the beta3 rewind bug, I found it vanished after I left the unit overnight, during which time it had recorded some programmes. I suspect if you record anything it'll come right.

This did not have any effect on the rewind bug. It was still there.

wiredr:i have tried the beta 2 and the beta 3 and there is a rewind issue in b3 but not in b2
so i would recommend b2 as the most stable at the moment

Rolling back to beta 2 did fix the problem though. Definitely go with the beta 2 version.  Thanks wiredr.

Yeah, sorry, I didn't do enough testing. I've found it only occurs shortly after a skip forward has been done. Seems to jump back to a rouge independent position and starts rewinding from there. That rogue position reduces each time rewind occurs by the amount rewound.

Also, reconfirming deleted channels become undeleted upon playback.

The MTV3600TD is now listed on the Australian Freeview website with a second "MTV 3700TD" model listed as "coming soon". That should be good news for firmware development.

Has anyone had audio drop outs? We've had our magicTV unit less than a week but twice on TV3 I have noticed split second audio drop outs. We're running the audio through a Denon AVR589 via optical. Signal strength is 74% and quality is 100%. Had the same functioning setup with a Zinwell 620HD & no problems.

I may have spoken too soon. It looks like Freeview Australia not only prohibits PVRs from exporting recordings, but requires the PVR to encrypt the recordings on the internal disc so you can't access them if you remove the HDD.

Nope still broken even with new firmware. Problem seemed to isolate to 1hr into recordings which someone suggested they had problems with early in this forum. Took the plunge and have sent it back to magic tv. Fingers crossed they find something, and that it doesn't take a month or longer!! Thanks for your suggestions.

Just wondering if any one else has found this happens with their MTV.
I was watching a movie using the MTV (live TV on TV2, not a recorded movie) and about half way through another program on another channel (TV3) was about to start that we wanted to watch live.
So not to miss the end of the movie I pushed the record button.
A few minutes later I changed the channel from TV2 to TV3 and watched the other program.
The next day I went to watch the last half of the movie. There was only a few minutes of recording and then the message please wait came up. Then the MTV menu came up. I looked at the menu and the recording of the movie showed it to be over an hour in length.
I replayed it a couple of times and it always stops at the point where I changed the channel from the movie to the TV3 program.

Now the same thing happened again the other night. I am half way through watching the TV2 Movie and the other half wants to watch NCIS live so this time (I remembered what had happened last time) I bought up the freeview guide and pushed the red button to record. Everything looked fine. I did this about 10 minutes before NCIS started so as not to forget to do it when I had to change channels 10 minutes later.
We watched NCIS and the next day I went to watch the rest of the movie and I only had the 10 minutes from starting the recording until I changed the channel.

On both of these occasions there was no other recording scheduled during this period.

Next time I will change the channel first and then set up the recording. I am pretty sure that will sort it out but it appears if you start a recording part way through a program you are watching and then change the channel that will end the recording without any warning.

I was using firmware 12 for the first incident and 13 beta 2 for the second incident so I don't think the firmware version has any affect on this.

Just a heads up so you don't end up missing half of your movie.

casewindow: regarding your YCbCr purple hue problem, could you try the 3.13 beta2 or beta3 firmware to see if it makes any improvement?  Thanks

Hi there,

I'd like to wait until it becomes non-beta. We've just got everything set up with the only glitch in the system being the occasional dropout of audio on Tv3 (dolby bitstream). My wife wouldn't be too impressed if I stuffed anything up tinkering around at this stage :)
