What is new in the latest beta version? Have Magic tv finally sorted out the ffwd/frwd lag?

My test of beta5:

Definite further improvement in the ffwd/frwd performance, both in responsiveness and consistency. Still a little jerky but decent. Well done Magic!

And the other part of that bugbear - Pause to playback and ffwd/frwd to playback transitions also seem a lot better but this is only a quick test and this issue can vary greatly between recordings. I'll reserve judgment.

I can't delete channels at all now! They just pop straight back into the selection.

Dead channels have revived on their own when I was trying to delete them so I'd guess anyone that is still struggling to access channels will like this update.

All-in-all, looking good.

Hmm, nope, take that all back about ffwd/frwd. It's still as it has been recently.

So, the only improvement over beta4 is the recovered channels. Beta2 doesn't have this issue so it's still the best one imho.

New bug in beta5: audio over the RCA stereo cables stops working after the MagicTV is woken up from standby mode. It only returns after a full reboot.

The bugs mentioned on the previous page have not been fixed in this firmware.

That explains what happened to me last night then. I upgraded the firmware to beta5 and all seemed to work. I turned everything off, and then later when I went to watch a program I was half way through recording, no sound. Nothing via the RCA or the optical out either. I did not try the HDMI audio out. All I did was go back to beta 4.

I had a problem a while ago because the Magic box was outputting audio on the optical port when in stand-by. That was a problem for me because my audio system has both digital and analogue inputs for each of three component settings. With the Magic box outputting a signal into the digital input when on standby, the analogue input wouldn't work. I've just checked with beta 5 and it appears the Magic box no longer outputs an audio sugnal on the optical port when in stand-by and therefore the analogue input works.

I've just checked a recording made last night after I updated to beta 5 and I have sound coming out of the optical port. All I did was to bring the Magic box out of stand-by. I didn't reboot it.

Lol, I turned it on tonight and no sound via the analogue audio output. A restart later and it's back. Time to load up beta2 again.

Nah! Still jumping around for me. Beta6 seems to be on par with beta2.

It takes some testing but the best way I've found, and is a clear fixed point in the recording, is to be fast forwarding through an ad break and press play when the program is back on. Playback will then proceed from last several seconds of the ad. This is very repeatable even when only at 2x FFwd.

Analogue sound has returned in beta6.

I'm still having erroneous "Channel Service Not Available" error messages when changing channels. Could this be related to the strength of the VHF signal?

When the TV aspect ratio is set to 4:3 (CRT) and the channel is broadcast in 16:9, the "Zoom1" aspect mode is distorted.

I have had a magic tv for a few months now & I am on 3.12.

Recently, and with increasing frequency I have been getting brief "channel service not available" when flicking between channels.

Yesterday during Breakfast the feed just paused and a message popped up saying to check the channel frequency. It resumed after a second or two.

Any idea what could be causing this? We live in a very strong signal area with a direct line of view to the Mt KauKau transmitter in Wgtn.

Our other box, a Zinwell 620HD does not have these problems.
