If you marked the series recording before firmware update, please try remove the recording mark (make sure there is no [S] mark on the show), then mark the series recording again.

magictv, a question
why have we not seen a change log for the latest update, knowing what has changed would save a lot of angst . are we to accept that all updates are for our benefit. ?

The 3.07NZ firmware is consider the first initial firmware, so there is no change log. All user is advised to update to the 3.07NZ firmware if the unit is running older firmware. Future firmware release detail will be listed in each firmware release note on our website download page.

About the "The Simpsons" series recording confusion, we are checking now and will update later...

Hi, we have had a Magic 3600 for about 10 days now with no problems whatsoever.  We are in a fringe area for UHV reception and had a signal booster installed to get a decent Prime picture (prior to getting Magic).  Suggest you install one of these if you have further signal problems - its only a small unit that fits between your aerial outlet and the Magic box, not expensive.

Magic is great - we have had a Pioneer recorder for some years now and although the Magic menus seem a little less professional in their appearance thay are far more user friendly.  To anyone considering a PVR the Magic has two significant advantages (to me).  Firstly the programmable buttons for the TV (yes we have tried them and they work fine) and secondly it will output at 1080p if your TV will take it.  Also we have not encountered any bugs whereas I see there are issues with the Zinwel and Homecast.  As for the Tivo . . . . Telecom! and they have not yet got Prime and Maori on their EPG (and I understand you need a broadband connection (not necessarily Telecom) to get it.

I had been waiting for the Topfield since they first promised it in March.  In the end I opted for something I could get.

We paid $699 from Bond & Bond.

I would chase this up Pebbles. I'm sure that the supplier would want you to get your review up as soon as possible especially as 3 of you are reviewing different units.

I was one who was waiting to to read your review, but got impatient. I brought a Magic TV unit last week for my mother who has recently been placed into residential care.

Purchased primarily as she can no longer handle VHS tapes to record her favourite shows and the learning remote means she can operate the TV and Magic TV with the one unit.

My mother is over 70 years of age and so far hasn't had any issues in using the basic features of the unit.

Re exporting from the MTV3600: There does not seem to be anyway to do this, BUT the MTV3500 (Hong Kong) can via an external USB drive. Presumably this was removed at the request of Freeview?????????

A couple of minor moans:

While watching TV in timeslip mode a "timeslip" logo appears for 3 sec every 10 secs, any way of turning this off (as you can with the similar "recording" and "playback" logos)?

The font used in the recorded program list, especially the brief synopsis of the program at the bottom, could be clearer/darker.

MagicTV any chance of an upgrade to these?

We checked with Freeview about "The Simpsons" issue. Freeview confirmed us the show is indeed running in many "series" concurrently on each day. You will need to add each day's episode as a separate "series".

Sorry about the recorded program export limitation. It is required by Freeview approval.

We will add a "timeshift" on screen status icon on/off setting in firmware update.

Thanks for checking that! i was wondering why it's only The Simpsons that has problem with the series recording. It all make sense now! Thanks

It would be great if you can add the "rename" function in the firmware update as well. even a basic one would be very good and useful

Another bit of information on the series recording thing. We set it to record "The Cult" on Thursdays in series mode. Low and behold it not only recorded the Thursday slot OK but also recorded the replay slot on Wednesday as well!

That's a freeview series link issue. I get that as well with our Homecast PVR
