Thanks for the feedback, it sounds like it's a problem limited to the v4 AU firmware (4.41AU, 4.42AU and 4.44AU). I tested all of them with timeshift disabled and no start/end padding with the same result, no prioritization permitted. Oddly extending the start/end time of existing schedules does allow prioritization. Hopefully this is not mandated by Australian Freeview and something the Magic guys can fix in the future.

odd indeed , but try deleting the scheduled programs and rebooking under the no overlap , no live pause settings and see how you go ;)

I tried everything.

*All 3700 AU firmware versions 4.41AU, 4.42AU and 4.44AU.
*Upgrading via the internet (MTV3700 4.44AU).
*Downloading beta firmware but none available.
*Disabled timeshift.
*Disabled start/end extensions.
*Cleared schedules.
*Reset to factory defaults.

The Australian mtv3700 Freeview EPG won't let me prioritize conflicts.

What Jimmy is saying is that any existing series recording setups actually hold the memory of whatever the default extensions you had when they were set. In other words, setting a new entry, without extensions, that is next to an existing one, with extensions, will still trigger a collision.

You can edit each series setup rather than deleting and recreating.

With regard to prioritising: This feature still effectively culls one of the affected programmes - just like doing a cancel on one of them. The higher and lower option is only useful when one or more of the colliding programmes is a repeating episode that can be recorded the next day - which is very common for me as many of my recordings are from TV7.

Maybe the prioritising option only appears when the MTV detects such a coincidence in the EPG, dunno.

Some of you will have noticed it says on the Magic TV website that the 3600 can play back .m2ts files from FAT USB drives via the Camcorder "Gadget" feature. What they didn't mention is it can play back .ts files too, including ones recorded by the Magic TV.

So if you get a USB key, create a /video/ subdirectory, and place a .ts or .m2ts file inside, the Magic TV will handle it.

VLC can convert video to the .ts format. The right settings are needed to retain compatibility, quality and conversion speed.

The Magic TV also supports JFS, EXT2 and EXT3 so I guess they might work instead of FAT32.

Interesting idea, I'd forgotten all about using VLC for transcoding.

Unlike the HK MTV the NZ 3600 doesn't support NTFS which means one of the other file systems has to be used to surpass FAT32's 4GB file size limit.

If you're on Windows you can use one of these programs to access EXT partitions
http://www.ext2fsd.com
http://www.fs-driver.org

I don't think you can access JFS from within Windows. For flash drives JFS is preferable to EXT2 and EXT2 is preferable to EXT3 or so I've read.

Interesting idea, I'd forgotten all about using VLC for transcoding.

If the original file contains an MPEG related audio or video codec then "Keep Original ... Track" can be selected when converting to .ts. The AC-3 audio codec is what is used by Dolby so it should work too.

Is anyone in Auckland able to tune their Magic TV into the Voice TV mux? If I go to manual tune and select UHF channel 50 it finds the signal but says "0 channels found". Is the Magic TV locked out of non Freeview channels?

The AC-3 audio codec is what is used by Dolby so it should work too.

Should work. Some tracks work ok but in others the sound is muffled. The Xvid video codec works but may be dysfunctional if you try to fast forward. When playing a non h.264 MPEG-4 codec it'll show the MPEG-2 icon.

Imported .ts and .m2ts files are dropped into the /video/ subdirectory of the jfs partition without a .tv in sight.

If anyone could make an FTP client run on the Magic TV it would be really easy to transfer video to it.

This 5.07 BETA firmware for MTV3600TD has included as many features as possible from MTV3700TD 5.07:

http://www.magictv.com/downloads/mtv3600_5_07NZbeta.zip

Change List:
- Add iPhone/iPad/Android remote control app support (the MTV3600TD needs to be connected to the WiFi router as the mobile device does; if the WiFi router has a feature to "separate" a WiFi device from other devices it has to be turned off)
- Fix manual repeat timer recording for daylight saving change (unrelated to Freeview EPG recordings which do not have such a problem)
- Add rename function for recorded programmes
- Add audio delay setting
- Add built-in volume adjustment (only works if the remote volume buttons has not been programmed or the remote has been reset)
- Add graphic prompt for radio channels
- Add favourite channels

Note:
- Recommended to factory reset after upgrade or downgrade between versions 3.x and 5.x

Even with the features added to MTV3600TD by this beta firmware, MTV3700TD still offers the additional features:

- Faster CPU
- 1TB HDD
- Record/export to 3.5" USB HDD (HD channels will always be encrypted and can only be played via the recording unit)
- Support for one or more USB HDD formatted as NTFS, ext2, ext3
- MHEG HD (this makes the characters on the EPG look smooth, and enables the possibility of future HD applications from Freeview)
- MHEG Interaction Channel (experimental alpha status for future features from Freeview)
- Lower power standby
- Fast forward with audio
- Slow motion forward and audio
- Format system HDD
- Support for Magic TV USB WiFi dongle

I tried out this beta version of the firmware with mixed results
Pros -
Recorded programme renaming is great
Radio channels get a screensaver with the Magic logo + the Channel name + current show

Cons -
Fast forward seems to be ok but rewind repeatedly goes back and then forward a few seconds until it eventually gets out of the loop and goes back back further
It's back to the 10 min forward/backward skip
Intermittently there was no sound on radio channel 51 (Radio NZ Concert) - power off/on seemed to fix it
I had the unit freeze displaying "Magic TV" on the LED display and nothing on the tv after a power on.

I did a factory reset after upgrading - which deletes the "To do" list, so need to redo them afterwards. New recordings don't get linked to previous series link recordings of the same series

After getting the unit freeze, I decided to revert back to 3.17

I didn't try out the ipod app, but looks as if it just an alternative to using the real remote.

Anybody else give it a go?

Harmony 200 from elive for $30 delivered. Similar to the 300 but controls 3 devices rather than 4.
Thanks to forum posters for the hot tip on harmonys
The play button on my original remote became unresponsive. I opened it up cleaned the oil off and changed the batteries but a week later it was unresponsive again.
I have a 15 year old Sharp VCR that has been subjected to heavy use and it's remote is still fine, so thi is svery disappointing from Magictv
