Bob123: They are available directly from dish TV for $40 includes gst and freight

http://www.dishtv.co.nz/vmchk/Remotes.htm

Cheers Robert

thank you all for your suggestions , i have decided just to buy a replacement remote from dishtv

Thanks for the link Robert

Send it back to Dishtv asking for a replacement. It should last far longer than they are doing. I've got a 20+ year old VCR and the remote still works fine.

kiwidownunder: I had the same problem recently with the remote becoming unresponsive. I replaced the batteries and now it is as good as new. Might be worth a try before pulling the remote apart. Cheers...

I may only know the basics of technology, but of course I tested the batteries first!!

And when it's only two buttons that are unresponsive, it's not the batteries.

Well my new remote has just arrived from Dish TV , I am very happy with the quick turn around , i ordered remote on 21st , it has arrived the 22nd before 8 am via courier

Bite the bullet and buy from those guys if your fast forward buttons etc are a bit un responsive , as my magictv box gets used lots so $40 for a new remote is well worth not having the frustration of a non responsive remote when watching recorded tv

this was not a battery problem as i tried replacing the batteries before i decied to buy a new remote

Ugh, the back-lighting is the best part of the original remote!

Lucky mine is still going strong after about three years.

Well my first remote died after about 8 months, got a new one without the back lighting and touch wood over a year now with no problem whatsoever with it.

Kind of makes me wonder if the backlight or lack of it is the only change made to the remote?

my original lasted about 8 months too , cleaned it four times and then went to harmony, no further issues , but the harmony has reduced remotes down to one from 6-7 or so .  Great how you can control sound from amp and change channels etc WITHOUT having to change modes, different buttons can be allocated to different equipment in the same mode .  Also one button turns all components off at the end of the session. :)

Hi i have a MTV3600  and lately the buttons on my remote control started getting very non responsive , any suggestions ?
Are there any universal remotes that work well with magictv ?

I have two units and found that on both of them there is an oily covering on the silicon/rubber pads inside the remotes.  Once cleaned, they worked much better.

The other problem with the magic box is that the software is not too hot and the cpu is underprowered.  If its busy, it is slow to respond. Often, mine will stop working and spontaneously reboot (2-3 times a week).  And a cold boot does speed it up.

I also replaced my MagicTV remote this week after the buttons started misbehaving. I tried cleaning the internal panels as suggested here but no difference.

I'm not concerned about the lack of backlighting on the new one BUT the new plastic case is too slippery for my liking.  That was one ot the things I loved about the original remote - that slight rubberised feel to it, it was grippy in the hand. It also didn't slip off the armrest like this new one does!

My question: does anyone have an original "dead" remote I can buy off them to use the shell for my new one? I'll pay the freight and a nominal price if you're reluctant to part with it :)

If you're wondering what happened to my old one, well I stupidly threw it away before the new one arrived.

Thanks

It would be useful if 5:4 was one of the aspect ratio options alongside 16:9, 4:3 and 16:10 for all the 5:4 17" and 19" LCDs out there.

wklie: MTV3600TD Firmware 5.10 beta
http://www.magictv.com/nz/downloads/mtv3600_5_10NZbeta.zip

Firmware date: 2012-10-29

Change list from 5.07 beta:
- Fix playback of Sony NEX-5 AVCHD and possibly some other video
- Fix a booking problem with specific regional channels
- Fix XBox 360 remote control support in Freeview EPG

Change list from 3.x:
- Add iPhone/iPad/Android remote control app support (the MTV3600TD needs to be connected to the WiFi router as the mobile device does; if the WiFi router has a feature to "separate" a WiFi device from other devices it needs to be turned off)
- Add rename function for recorded programmes
- Add built-in volume adjustment (Settings -> Audio -> Volume; can also be controlled via remote control if the volume buttons have not been programmed)
- Add graphic prompt for radio channels
- Add favourite channels

Note:
- Recommended to factory reset after switching between versions 3.x and 5.x

Even with the features added to MTV3600TD by this beta firmware, MTV3700TD still offers the additional features:

- Faster CPU
- 1TB HDD
- Record/export to multiple 3.5" USB HDD up to 2TB each (HD channels will always be encrypted and can only be played via the recording unit)
- Support USB HDD already formatted as NTFS (or use Magic TV to format it as ext2)
- MHEG HD (required for HD version of Freeview EPG, makes the characters on the classic EPG look smooth, and enables the possibility of future HD applications from Freeview)
- MHEG Interaction Channel (experimental alpha status for future features from Freeview)
- Lower power standby
- Fast forward with audio
- Slow motion forward and audio
- Format system HDD
- Support for Magic TV USB WiFi dongle

Has there been any progress wth the 5 series of firmware?

Back in Nov 2012, I briefly tried the beta 5.10 firmware, but had a issue where a 8x fast forward wouldn't stop till it reached the end of the recording, but the time scale didn't move from 1:53, so reverted back to 3 series firmware. Magic tv logo for radio stations is cool.
