Turbocharged:

I just tried exactly what you did but had no luck unfortunately. It must be specific to the add-on. I tried it with both the 'Other' and 'New Zealand' location feature, and also with the Ethernet cable connected and disconnected, but it didn't give me any option to agree to T&C's after doing a channel scan.

Hmmm... Perhaps someone else who has already purchased the add-on could try it and report back (possibly NZtechfreak?). That would really suck if the EPG requires the purchase of the add-on.

To take advantage of the full EPG using tvtv you have to download the PlayStation store update as well. for us who have imported this has a cost but the version of playtv  that will be released next week comes with a voucher that will give you chat tv and tvtv etc free of charge which is good news for the local buyer

Re-scanned channels and can confirm full EPG!!!! Nice. Shame you have to pay, but I'm not too put out, I've a years good use out of it, and even with the additional cost its like $50 less than it retails for here...

@ dontpanic42 and NZtechfreak - Is an internet connection required in order to see the full EPG?

Thanks. I thought that was the case, but wanted to get confirmation from someone who has actually purchased the add-on. Looks like I may have to run an extra Ethernet cable under the house after all....Would be a bit annoying to have to unplug the Ethernet cable from the laptop every time I wanted to record something via the EPG, lol.

I take it you don't have a wireless router? ;)

I can't say this for sure, but I assume that PlayTV would download the listings once and store them somewhere on the hard drive. So you could probably just plug the Ethernet cable in once in a while and update the listings.

I will try and do a few tests to confirm my theory.

Yep, I have a wireless router, but I always have my PS3 set-up for a wired connection as I play Call of Duty: Black Ops online a fair bit, and I find that the signal strength on wireless isn't good enough (produces unwanted lag). It would be too much of a hassle to have to set the router from wired to wireless every time I want to use PlayTV's EPG. I've been meaning to run another cable under the house for quite some time, so this would be a good incentive :). The space under my house is just high enough under to crawl under, so it looks like I'll be mingling with the spiders this weekend. A test to see whether or not the EPG settings are remembered when the internet connection is terminated would be very good to know though :)

Ok we may need to get a few facts straight, here is the deal (For New Zealand PlayTV)

- Those of us who decided to import and to take advantage of the full EPG using TVTV via the internet we have no choice but to download the PlayStation store update and yes it will cost us. (I suppose that was the gamble we took buying overseas)

- When the New Zealand hardware goes on sale next week (yes the hardware is the same as the imported PlayTV) as part of the deal it will come with a voucher so New Zealand customers will get the full deal free of charge including chat TV, TVTV  etc. This make to RRP of $199 not so bad as you are saving the $15 update, not only that you will have the comfort of a 1yr warranty and local support.

I for one have no issues having to download the update at a cost, like I said we took the gamble importing in the first place. with the added $15 cost it is still a cheap unit and we have had the opportunity to use PlayTV over the last couple of years.

- Yes the EPG is not fully working for Prime TV and MediaWorks, this is no fault with PlayTV but with the network providers I am sure this will come out in the wash.

As far as the 2 year delay in PlayTV getting to our shores again this is no fault of SCEE the fault lies fairly and squarely with Freeview NZ and the pathetic rules they have with the main issue being the EPG, SCEE did not want to go with the MHEG5 EPG and the rules in getting the product certified was major this is why they went to the tvtv option.

I bit the bullet and decided to download the PlayTV pack from the PS Store a few minutes ago. I can confirm that the EPG does still work after you terminate the internet connection. It will try to connect, but then tells you that no connection is detected, but if you press circle to go back then it shows the EPG with the listings you downloaded last time. So that's good to know, and will save me having to connect my Ethernet cable every time I want to record straight from the EPG.

Some of the programme listing boxes were blank when I first tried out the EPG (as in, all the programmes for TV1 would show, but the TV2 boxes below it were blank), but I found that by scrolling along the programme boxes on top of the one below it, it would make the programmes magically appear (it has appeared every time by itself since doing that). So if you scroll along the TV1 programme timeline, the TV2 programmes will pop up, and so on.

Good news. For the EPG to properly work and fully populate you do need to be on line for this. yes to a fashioned the EPG will semi work being off line but it will not be able to update it's self which is very critical. My advice is not run the EPG off line.

In what way is it not fully working? At the moment is it just the now and next listings that show?

No, the EPG should be fully working, see posts above.
