At the moment, the EPG only shows 11 days ahead for TV3, C4, TV3 PLUS1, C42, and Chinese TV, and only 8 days ahead for Prime. Whereas the other stations have the programme listings shown for a total of 13 days ahead. This is hardly a problem, and the listings for the stations mentioned will more than likely be shown closer to the dates the programmes are going to be aired. Would be nice to have it fixed eventually though.

At anywhere over 8 days it is better than the offical Freeview EPG so no worries there.

Mediaworks will get sorted but don't hold your breath for Prime..

Sounds like TIVO ver 2.0

$199 you say, or...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Play-TV-PS3/dp/B0017UV0UG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290070856&sr=8-1

Yes $199 is well VERY expensive...

the amazon link you quote.. they don't ship to NZ..

but mymemory.co.uk have it for £42.95 with free shipping which is NZ $89.99 which is still 1/2 the price in buying it from NZ. I have actually bought one from mymemory before (and sold it a number of months ago) and they have very good service and got to NZ in a very reasonable amount of time.

I don't know why things have to be soo expensive in NZ.. for example the rock band 3 mustang pro guitar in NZ (mightyape.co.nz) is $349.00 + shipping... you can buy it from barnesandnoble.com for US $184.98 ($241.61) including shipping.

Yes you get the safety of the CGA and return locally if you buy it fro NZ.. but with the playtv you can buy 2 for near the same price from overseas just in case the 1st one breaks)

Thanks

Yeah, very true. Although admittedly I prefer using the Freeview EPG as it's easier to read than the PlayTV EPG.

Too slow? Mine's fast. Perhaps it depends on the TV. I'm using a Sony Bravia 40" LCD TV (KDL-40V4000) and it loads quick, and is fast to browse through the channel listings.

Mightyape charges a premium basically...

When I asked mightyape why it (the guitar) was so expensive compared to overseas they said it was what their supplier's price was.

I presume they are getting it from gamewizz.co.nz who are the distributors for most gaming type stuff in NZ.

I'm surprised people haven't just become accustomed to it. I buy most stuff from overseas, because even taking shipping into account its just cheaper.

- Yes the EPG is not fully working for Prime TV and MediaWorks, this is no fault with PlayTV but with the network providers I am sure this will come out in the wash.

In what way is it not fully working? At the moment is it just the now and next listings that show?

No, the EPG should be fully working, see posts above.

I'm having the same experience as wilt64 after the paid update - I get the full EPG for TVNZ channels (1,2,6,7,etc) but nothing further than now/next for Mediaworks and Prime. Certainly not 8 days worth of prime!

I did a scan and then mapped the "tvtv" options to the tuned channels - there were only TVNZ options for the tvtv channels...

Am I missing something?

Interesting, no you are not missing anything, MediaWorks and Prime have been removed from the tvtv mapping.....it was fine 24hrs ago my EPG is still fully populating to the 10days but I suppose it will slowly drop to nothing over the next 10 days. So looks like we have lost MediaWorks and Prime for now. This will also affect the community favorites from now on. was interesting ratings wise last night we had way more people watching 3news Campbell Live Glee X factor and 7 days!!
Yes this MediaWorks Prime thing needs to be sorted!!!

Its a shame the EPG thing can't be sorted. The whole point of a device like Play TV is to record programmes. With out a full EPG from mediaworks and prime (now and next don't cut it) and also no series record function it makes play TV somewhat useless.

Up the amount of EIT data broadcast (that's where the now/next info comes from) and PlayTV and Windows Media Centre would work right out of the box.  They do this on the satellite freeview service, where they broadcast both the full EIT data and the MHEG5 EPG.  (EIT doesn't directly support series link though).

The relevant parties are happy that their EPG data be broadcast in full on the satellite service but each have political motives for the terrestrial/UHF/HD service which is petty.  It's a real cross over where content providers start having their hands in the hardware side of things too.  Hasn't been helped with freeview trying to compete with SKY either, ie calling their devices MyFreeview etc, even though they don't really have anywhere near the content that SKY does.... sorry, end rant.

Do you need to be connected to the PSN to upgrade playTV? What about to get the EPG? Has anyone played around with playTV with a jailbroken PS3? I'm thinking you will be able to directly get to the recorded TV show files via FTP and move them to the home menu (and move them back to playTV which could not be done even before the upgrade).

It's been a while since I last checked format support, but I believe that the video player in the PS3 XMB still doesn't support the LATM AAC audio codec used by almost all of the the FVHD channels. So even if you went to the huge effort of hacking your way around the Sony user experience to get what you want, you still wouldn't get any audio, except on TV3.

I purchased the playTv update and now the EPG is much more populated (except for tv3,prime etc)
but ive also noticed that i can no longer see whats on next in the "now/next" section.
I have lost the ability to scroll sideways and check, has anyone else had this issue? Maybe its just a glitch or something so could someone please confirm they can still see whats on next (without opening the full EPG)?

Thanks
