Panasonic have just released a firmware update for the DMRBW850 DVB-T recorder which address the TV3 audio priority issue. The unit now defaults to the  dolby 5.1 audio track when you change to TV3 or playback material recorded from TV3 - yay!

http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/bd/download/bw850/index.html

You can download the firmware from the site (needs to be burnt onto a CD to install) or, apparently, get it by connecting the unit to the internet and leaving it in standby.

Looks like firefox can't download the file but Internet Explorer will - and you'll need a windows box to decompress the file.

Thanks to Steve from Panasonic for following this up with Japan.

Can it be updated with the firmware on a USB drive?

Frimware can't be updated via USB. Need to burn it to a CD or let the machine download it itself if it's plugged into the net and in standby.
