Hi everyone, Looking at PVR's and HTPC and the like. At the moment the MagicTV 3600 seems flavour of the month so I'm wondering whats wrong with Homecast ht9200HD. It seems to have exactly the same features and is on special to Geekzone members for $499?

Have I missed something?

Homecast HT9200DTR is my recommended PVR. It has everything including workaround to transfer files to your PC. See my post earlier. It has been a solid performer for me. $499 is great deal.

I've had both. I had some issues with the Homecast box, especially with jitter on TV3 playback while recording 2 shows at the same time. It may have been my TV/STB combination but it did my head in.

IMO the interface and remote are significantly better on the MagicTV compared to the Homecast. You also get 1080p upscaling which isn't too important as Freeview is a 720p/1080i signal.

Whether they're $200 better (you can get a MagicTV for $700) is up to you. Go and play with them and figure out what you like better. Personally I wouldn't go back.

HT9200DTR when initially released had an issue with jitter mentioned by Handle9. However, this issue was fixed via firmware upgrade and since there has been no issues with jitter.

It was fixed late Nov. Probably after you returned your receiver.

Yeah, returned my receiver in early November. Just interested because when I posted about it on here you denied it was a known issue.

Handle9: I don't think SG at DTVS was aware as I pointed the issue out on my unit to them. I know it was fixed promptly like in less then two weeks for me with revised software. I was told it was WD Green HDD issue and WD had fixed the problem with revised driver to Homecast.

So was it ultimately a hardware or software issue?

It was revised software. Sorry I mistyped in my earlier message which I have corrected.
