Well, I got mine set up last night and programmed in all my shows. It started recording the Lost repeat last night! I guess it's the earliest episode from the show I've series linked. I stopped that recording and the list updated to tonight's episode, so we'll see how it goes.

the saga continues - 24 did not record last night, despite being set last week to series record and recording successfully last friday, this friday it did not, even though it was down on the list to record. this is really annoying me now!!!!

24 recorded OK for me. I'm having some weird issues trying to series link shows and getting errors about too many shows being recorded at that time. I'm wondering if it's later episodes clashing, but I haven't had time to look into it too indepth yet. I'll keep you posted.

remember, it only has 2 tuners so you can only record 2 programmes at a time. also,if you have the buffer set to start recording 2 mins early and finish 10 mins late it can cause a conflict if you have a 3rd programme set to start recording on a different channel. ie: programme A might be on tv1 7pm - 8pm, programme B on tv3 also at 7pm - 8pm. if you have programme C set to start recording on prime at 8pm it won't record as programme A and B won't finish till 8:10pm.

I'm pretty sure there's no problem with clashing so not really sure what the problem is/was.  I'm going to remove all the scheduled recordings and strt again.  The funny thing was when I added American Idol (for my wife!) it always seemd to want to schedule two events at the same time for next Friday's show which ended up clashing with 24, even though only 2 shows are on at that time and I didn't have anything else set for Friday.

I did get a message once saying that a different screening would be recorded due to clashes which I was pretty happy about.  Anyway, as long as I didn't record Idol I didn't have a problem.  Is it trying to tell me something?

24 did not record for me last week. It automatically set the next recording as the Wednesday (?) night repeat screening, so hopefully works. Other than that, everything has recorded flawlessly.

It does get a bit confused with series link and all the repeat screenings. I guess it always schedules the first episode of the series which it hasn't recorded yet. So, if I set Lost to series record on Thursday (after the Wednesday episode has screened) it will schedule to record the catchup episode (Monday, Tuesday?) first before settling down to the Wednesday screenings, which makes sense and is fine by me.

Anyway, I've cancelled my series recording of American Idol so I'll see if that makes any difference. I'm certain it's some EPG issue rather than a problem with the box since everything else is working great.

yeah I'm still having problems with 24 - I can have it down listed as going to record the friday show and it still won't record - only answer is to delete and re-set the series record on the friday itself before the show, but even then it has still failed to record the following week.

The pacific seems to be recording fine now though (although I can't actually be bothered to watch it at the moment!)

Freeview and JC Matthew haven't been much help with this issue - all they can suggest is that I return the box to them and await a replacement but I don't really want to do this as I don't want to be without tv for that amount of time, and I also feel the same as you in that it's an EPG problem that won't go away unless there is a software update. Plus it's not just JC Matthew boxes that are having these problems.....

Basically it sucks and no-one wants to take responsibility for fixing it!

Does it record the repeat? Does it work if you record the episode not series linked? I don't really mind if it skips the Friday for whatever reason, as long as it picks up the Wednesday episode. Have you tried contacting C4? The problem is that we don't know how things work in the background.

It seems to me that all PVRs should be having the same problem, if its EPG based, unless they handle things differently. My thought is that each show and episode must have its own code that gets recognised by the PVR from the EPG. Maybe C4 is changing or removing the 24 code prior to the broadcast? I don't record anything else on C4 (oh, actually I do Family Guy which seems OK) but maybe it's a more widespread problem on their channel.

I don't think a one off issue with The Pacific is a problem. Well, I mean it is, but things do go wrong occasionally. This 24 thing seems to be recurring, so is a higher priority in my opinion.

No it hasn't recorded the repeat either on a number of occassions - it has been down listed that it will, but just doesn't!

I've not contacted c4 as I thought all the EPG stuff was handled by the Freeview people, but I guess it's worth a try.

By the way the Pacific issue was not an one- off - it happened to me on 3 occassions, so is definitely the same problem, which makes me think it's not down to a specific channels EPG...........

OK, I must've misread about The Pacific. OK, well, maybe I should try just recording each episode separately rather than series record. I don't want to have to download the missed episode.

I assumed the respective channels gave the required info to Freeview. What we need is someone who can monitor the EPG information to see what happens with it. I can probably set my PlayTV tuner up on my computer to do that, but I don't really know how those MHEG5 things work. Does anyone already know or shall I just give it a go?

OK, that's curious. I'm sure the same thing happened to me except that I was not around on Friday morning to check and change it. So what happened I wonder? The IDs must have changed or something. Something more to take to Freeview/JCMatthew I would suppose. I will check the repeat schedule tomorrow evening to ensure I at least get that.

well that's the same problem I have had with 24 too.

Maybe one of you guys could try contacting JC Matthew and Freeview as well and letting them know you have the same problem  - the more they are aware of it the more chance they will try and fix it and issue a software update?

I sent a detailed email to enquiries@jcmatthew.co.nz, freeviewadmin@freeviewnz.tv and jallen@mediaworks.co.nz (John Allen, Director of Technology at MediaWorks). I got an email bounced back from the jcmatthew address:

"A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO::

Don't know what this means, but I'll see what happens. What address did you contact jcmatthew on?
