just got this email back from jc matthews regarding the recording issues:

Thanks for your email; JCMatthew is currently investigating on record repeat programmes with FreeviewNZ on EPG listing.

so it looks as though they're looking into the problem. fingers crossed it'll be sorted soon.

excellent news - at least they understand there is a problem now and hopefully something will get sorted - I'm glad I haven't returned my unit yet!

Nice work Butlerboy.

I have only noticed this issue a couple of times.

On a slightly more ominous note, I have had my one crash (freeze up - showing only black) twice.  It required a hard reboot to come back to normal (pulling the power plug). One time it was recording at the time (and I lost the whole recording when I rebooted).

There didn't seem to be any other consistent factors in the two crashes apart from the fact that it crashed after I asked it to do something (once was channel change, other time was load EPG).  I left it for over an hour to see if it would resolve itself with no joy. There was no response from the system, even when pressing the power / standby button on both the remote and the device.

It isn't a big deal at the moment, but if it became more frequent, I will send it back.

Ditto.

To patarat: I have had one crash the very first time I set it up, but it has been rock solid since then.  My wife said she was trying to watch a recorded Shortland Street but it just came up with a black screen and she had to turn it off.  She said she tried it a few times and every time was the same.  I don't know any other details.  When I deleted it, it released 3-4% of available drive space (bear in mind that's only 42 minutes of recording time), so something must've gone wrong with the recording.

I also heard from Tim at Freeview who confirmed the issue and said "That?s exactly correct although we?ve confirmed the EPG is correct and they are working on a fix. I?m talking to the guys in Taiwan and will continue to keep the pressure on so the fix is timely."

Sounds promising.

i've had the blank screen thing once in the 7 months i've had it. pushed play and all i got was a blank screen and the whole unit froze. thankfully it was only spongbob squarepants that i'd recorded so no biggie for me, my daughter on the other hand was none too impressed.

My mother-in-law had the unit hang on Sunday night requiring a power down to get it to respond again. I don't think she was trying to play anything... but nothing after that recorded and just a blank screen showing as others have commented.

She's only had it for 2/3 weeks so hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come!

Hey Bazzer and Butlerboy  - have either of you heard anymore about the update?

Tim at freeview doesn't seem to know anything more and told me to contact jc matthew directly, despite telling you guys that he would be keeping pressure on them for the fix.

Who have you been emailing at JC matthew about this? Have they given and ETA for the fix?

24 continues to fail to record - luckily it's on demand now on the c4 website as it didn't record for me on friday.

The pacific is  playing up again and did not record for me on monday either.

What I have discovered is that at some stage, repeated shows will change scheduled time from the current setting to the repeat showing (as mentioned by others in this thread).

Sometimes I have to go to the guide on the channel (or maybe mux) of the program and reset the schedule from there and that works. As long as I reset it on the day of the show everything is OK. That generally works fine for me, and since the problem only seems to happen on repeated shows then if something goes wrong I have another chance to catch it.

I have been corresponding with Henry.Liu@techcentral.co.nz and Ivan.Hu@techcentral.co.nz. I will send them a reminder today along with some hints. It is very easy to reproduce, so I can only imagine it's easy to fix ;)

Another problem I have is one hour programs recording for 6 hours. It happens quite often (weekly?) with Letterman and also happened with the Lost recap on Friday.

I have problems with single recording as well as series - on friday I decided to re-set the 24 recording to make sure and decided to put it on one-off record, not series to see if it made any difference. It didn't - it still did not record!!!

That's right, it's not whether you series link it or not that makes a difference, it's whether there's a repeat later in the week.  Did you reset the recording on Friday morning/afternoon from C4?

ah yes I see - I reset the 24 recording on friday evening, but I can't remember if I did it from the epg whilst tuned to c4 or not - that could be the problem as I have had that issue before.

thing is - it doesn't record the repeat for me either if it misses the first showing!

I've tried deleting and resetting the program from another channel's guide and once the problem occurs it will consistantly bring up the repeat screening rather than the one I want. I just make sure I go to each channel and set it from there and it solves my problem, but it's a real hassle and I wouldn't be able to trust it if I was away on holiday.

How much was this box on the 1 day special a while back?
It's advertised at 100% stores for $399 a the moment, but what's the vibe on this box. I know its 320gb but its $300 cheaper than the magic TV. (Not sure what the zinwells are going for now). Just wondering if it's worth the leap or if the box is fatally floored?
