Hi guys,
Just installed 3.18 patch - works great. My vote is for 4/4 minute FF/RW option please.
Thanks.

I did 3.18 a long time ago but never released it. When upgrading mine something went wrong, and I had to use the recovery process to get it working again. I am not sure if it was a one off glitch or what. The second time it worked fine, and I have since also upgraded my parents unit, that went fine as well. Because of that event and that no-one asked for it, I didn't release it. It has been running 24x7 on those two units since release with no problems.

Hi Ian.
All good here.  Trouble-free upgrade and basic record/playback functions working as before.
Cheers, Jef.

bmoff: Well done Ian. My vote would be for 4/4.

I must be missing something.  What does everyone else want to rewind by 4 minutes for?

I am usually a bit slow to get to the remote once the ads start so for Ch1, 3 and Prime I press skip forward 4 times and skip back once.  This pretty much takes me through a 4 minute ad break.  If I have skipped one minute too far I have to skip back 8 times to back up that minute - which is a bit of a fag but it seems much better than having to watch up to 4 minutes of ads or clipping up to 4 minutes of program.

I think the difference is the 1 minute forward 8 secs back is tailored to skipping ads, but pretty much useless for jumping through the program (e.g. to locate a scene you want to watch again, program started late) whereas the 4 min forward/back can be used for both - if an ad break is short, rewinding a short amount finds the right starting place.

I've been using the patched 3.18 for the last couple of days and seems fine. Thanks Ian

Yep one press...ads gone and a quick ffd or rwd if needed, usually isn't. The Magic TV remote is flakey enough without having to do multiple presses.

So I had a bit of an issues with Magic last night.

Only six days after replacing the hard drive, I got an "HDD disk error" message flash up on both the TV screen and Magic's display.  At the time we were watching TV through the unit, but not recording or playing anything back.

All functions worked except playback of recorded programmes, and recording (of course).  Basically, it wldn't recognise my HDD.

Powered off into standby; still no HDD.  Powered off using the switch at the back; still no HDD.  Had to remove the power cable, wait a while, then we were back in business.

I'm wondering now if I have a motherboard issue...

Surely I can't be the only one having these sorts of issues???

Not sure what good a 4 min skip would be, the main networks moved to 3 min add breaks a few months ago.

and Choice tv well their addbreak lengths appear to be random..

cb1, yes it's very difficult to go back through a recording with 8s back skip

monkey, that sounds like a loose power plug. I don't think the Green's head parking would cause that but it might if the Magic TV is intolerant of delays. I've had the no disk error a few times when starting up because of the slowness of the 5400rpm HDD but it has come right after 4 seconds.

Apsattv, if that is the case does 3m forwards and 4m backwards sounds better? There still are some 4min ad breaks but I've noticed they have been decreasing.

Since your HDD is new, I'd suggest replacing the power supply (12V 4A required).

funny thing is 1 min fwd and back 8 solves everyone's add skipping needs .  I have never watched something on magic tv and said "oh this isnt the part  i watched last time, this resume feature has got it all wrong ill need to skip backwards now "  there is also a feature to resume from the start so that is an hour skip backwards if needed . If only the fast forward were as good as my sky we would not need any skipping.  i must say i dont mind pressing 1min skip  3 times or four if need be , often im skipping back to 3min 30 as well so 1 fwd and 8 back is working well.  can someone help me understand why you need to skip back in big chunks, I cant imagine a scenario but it would be good to understand how others use the box

Bought a new PSU from Dish TV (specifically for MTV) - $68!! - arrived tonight, plugged it in, and within 2.5 hours experienced a freeze-up whilst watching a show.  Had to power off at the back to get the unit going again, as no buttons on the remote wld work.

I unplugged the PSU from the unit in the weekend and noticed some crackling coming from the brick, and more crackling in the wall socket when I plugged the unit in, so really thought a new PSU wld do the trick.

Pretty damn frustrated at this point.

It's pretty normal for a switchmode brick to "tick" when it's got no load.  This is called discontinuous mode where the smallest single pulse of charge is too much and it takes a long time for the voltage to drop down to allow the next pulse.

It's pretty normal for an inexpensive switchmode brick to go "splat" just as you plug it in to a live socket outlet.  They can make interesting noises inside a socket outlet switch when you switch on too.  If your wall socket keeps crackling after the initial splat, stop using it and call an electrician before it burns your house down.

Not sure if it's relevant but I had a weird freeze up last night too. If you were on any Mediaworks channel, this might have been your problem too.

I was watching a recorded show and initially the picture slowed and audio dropped out. Then briefly carried on ok, then happened again. Stopped play and the unit seemed to freeze. I was recording from Prime at the time, but the selected channel was TV3. After powering off and back on, it did the same. Tried again and was able to change channels ok. My recording was there, but no video showed, only audio. Watched something else, then changed back to TV3 and it froze again. Powered off/on and discovered changing to any Mediaworks channel caused issues - got the program info text up (but it was from an earlier show), but no picture. If you changed channels back quickly to a non-Mediworks channel, it would be ok, but leaving it caused it to freeze.

A Panasonic tv and PVR showed Mediaworks channels ok, but the program info text was either empty or flashed through several program's info.

So I think my freeze up was caused by some EPG issue with Mediaworks channels - hopefully it will be sorted out today.

A brand new MTV PSU did not fix my hard drive issues, nor did plugging the unit into another power point (in case the one it was in was a bit suss), so I gave up and bought a new one - the 3700.

Thus, I now have a 3600 with a 1TB green hard drive for sale, if anyone is interested... the internals of the machine look fine to the naked eye, but we did find the plug outlet on the back of it seemed a bit loose, so this cld be the source of the problem.

If anyone's interested, pls sing out...
