I'm posting here for those who follow after me (or if I need to rebuild my HTPC).  Trying to get my WHS 2010 to work with my (borrowed) Compro VideoMate S300 (thanks to Phil Gale, @redjungle), using MediaPortal.

The hardest part (so far of course) was just getting my card to "see" the Optus D1 satellite.  Did a lot of searching here on Geekzone, and looked up all sorts of sites about settings for the optusd1 like http://www.lyngsat.com/optusd1.html.

Did lots of head banging, Scan Satellite over and over, and no love. Changed lots of settings, but frustration was high.  Finally Phil gave me the correct recommendation "look on Freeview website see if you can find the values". long and the short of it is, here is the settings I had to enter to get it to find and scan the satellite

First things first UPDATE SATELLITE LIST in media portal

Sat #1 checked
DiSEqC None
Band: Ku-Linear (universal)
Satellite: 160.0 E Optus D1

Use Advanced Tuning Options checked
Scan type = predefined provider
Override default LNB Frequencies checked
Low (LOF1): 11300
High (LOF2): 11300
Switch (LNBSW): 7

Hit "Scan for channels" and it worked.

You obviously have an 11300 type lnb on the dish.
It's probably an older round ex Sky TV one.

If you are reading this and it's not working for you, try low/high (LOF1 and LOF2) values of 10750 instead.

Oh, it's working perfectly with the 11300 (the settings I have in the screen shot).  The real issue was the 7 for the LNBSW.  No one had that marked anywhere I could find.

7? NEver seen that before.
Mine is set to 0 (Zero) as there is no switching required as your LOF1 & LOF2 are the same.

That's what was driving me so crazy, everyone on the forums said the same thing, use 0.  @redjungle (Phil Gale) actually recommend when he had set up the same card he had also run into the same problem.  He couldn't remember what the settings where but he remembered that He followed a link for a Owner's Manual for a decoder box listed on the FreeviewNZ web site.

So I went to the freeview nz website, looked at Users Manual for the DTVS- 1b users manual
http://www.freeviewnz.tv/images/uploads/pdfs/DTVS_-_1B-UserManual.pdf
and on page 16 I saw this image

   AS you can see they set the LNB No to 7 for this device, so I thought, what the hell, I've tried everything else.  Plugged in 7 and BAM! off to the races, I could finally see the satellite with my card / Dish.

My dish is actually only 8 months old, installed on a new house.

Go figure

Did you try with 11300 for the LOF1 and leave LOF2 and Switch on zero?

Hi

Just to clear this up, if you want to use an LNB with a single LOF with MP then the settings to use are:

LOF1: <frequency shift of LNB, often 11300 or 10750 in NZ>
LOF2: (doesn't matter)
LNBSW: 0 (or a number higher than the highest frequency that you'd ever tune - I use 12750)

The way these fields work in MP is:

lnbFrequency = LOF1;
turnOn22kHz = false;
if (transponderFrequency > LNBSW && LNBSW != 0) {
    lnbFrequency = LOF2;
    turnOn22kHz = true;
}

Most other software does the same thing.

mm

(PS: I'm an MP development team member...)

mm135200,

I'm using MP with the Tv4Home extension (currently on released version 0.1.0.0) on my WHS 2011 (RTM).

So I know that MediaPortal is not supported on WHS 2011, hence that's why I didn't try to get help from the MP group, If I go off the reservation, I know I'm on my own.

So selecting the Optus d1 from the drop down (after updating satellite list) and asking it to scan (MediaPortal) it just couldn't find the satellite until I used those settings as specified in the screen shot at the start of this thread.

It maybe related to the fact that I'm using WHS 2011. but as I say, once I put in those settings every thing worked just fine.

Tv4Home is definitely still a 0.1.0.0 release, but it has some real potential

TV4Home looks good but I removed it so I could use MP 1.2.0 Beta on my WHS 2011 box. :)

I just remembered that I also had issues when I first setup MP on the WHS2011 box.
I had to manually edit the xml file for Optus D1 and just put in the Freeview transponders and then it worked.

Tv4Home release 0.1.0.0 is now working with MP 1.2.0 Release version and they have a hot fix if you want to use the MP 1.3.0 release.

Really?  Where did you find this info as I can't see anything on the website.

Whoops I wrote that wrong, I meant to say Tv4Home is using the 1.1.2.0 version of MP and has a hotfix if you want to use the 1.1.3.0 version.

Wow what a difference a leading "1." can make! Sorry about getting your hopes up!
