Great to know it's coming!

2.0 to 5.1 metadata switching is troublesome so I guess that will mean that stereo will need to replace front L+R channels in the 5.1 whenever there's no 5.1 content. Whew, sounds hard!

Can't wait! Hope the rugby will be 5.1 too... imagine the sub going with the Haka!

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....

Yep, we are taking all games from Sky in HD 5.1, but I think the less important ones end up on TVNZ7 in SD 2.0. I haven't seen a breakdown of what goes where yet.

One of the problems i have is MYSKYHDi does not output 5.1 on the HDMI.....a pain in the butt, the way my system is set up to run optical from Sky to home theatre is a pain, at the moment I have the PS3 with PlayTV running HDMI and Sky also running HDMI, have the Sony Bravia set up so the 5.1 stream goes direct from the optical output of the TV into my home theatre system (it only has 1 optical input) this way the PS3 and internal Freeview of the Sony Bravia are in 5.1........I hope Sky bring out a firmware update so it will output 5.1 on HDMI..

I think you can choose 5.1 over hdmi in the audio settings?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I will try this tonight and let you all know the outcome. One of the great things about the Sony Bravia X500 series they pass DD5.1 HDMI to TV optical out makes life very easy acts as a fantastic 5.1 audio switch!!!

Just had a quick look at the on line manual and in the specifications it says HDMI is 2 channel stereo output??

Just found this on another forum.....will try it tonight.

The 2.4.1.3 release for the MySKY HDi has:

- green power management (disk spindown on inactivity)
- AC3 over HDMI

The parameters for the green power management are:

- Off (default): no disk spindown
- Low: either between 11pm and 5am or 10am and 5pm the disk will spin down after 90 minutes inactivity
- Med: between 11pm and 6pm the disk will spin down after 120 minutes inactivity
- High: at any time the disk will spin down after 180 minutes inactivity

Inactivity is measured as no use of the remote.

Just had a look and the option is there now, you can select 5.1 on HDMI...good news, have even noticed TV3 is in 5.1 on SKY now (never used to be) I wonder when TVNZ goes 5.1 if they will be broadcasting it on SKY as well??

Yes, 5.1 will be on Sky as well. Not sure if it will appear at the same time as DTT, but it's certainly the intention. The HD lines to Sky are 16 channel capable so it should be good to go.

That would be good. Hope so. Haven't seen 5.1 advertised, only ad I saw said "live games in HD", so not neccesarily 5.1 then?
