Ralph: Yeah, had seen that, but family had hit "don't update" button. Know of any way to start off the update sequence? Will updates then happen OTA instead of from the website then?

I had Auto OTA turned off  and it still did it.

I now have 2 new options under System Settings, seems like the Auto OTA has been changed.

4AM  standby S/W upgrade and Auto S/W  upgrade.

But you still have Instalation S/W upgrade via OTA

Off AIR upgrades are the way for the none technical people, far less chance of a stuff up.

As long as you dont mind waiting.

http://www.dishtv.co.nz/information/t1020-over-the-air-update.htm
We are currently running an Over the air update starting from 28/11/2011.

The T1020 download is will take approximately 25 minutes to complete.

Your receiver should notify you once it detects the update. Select "Yes" to start the download process. The receiver will then reboot and start the download process.

Once the update has completed you can check that it has updated correctly by going into the "System Configuration" menu and selecting "Version". If updated correctly the details will be as shown below.
Hardware Version      1.0
Chip Version 4.1
Software Version A3UST18_17_0121
Loader Version LDR_DISHTV_HW11_SW12

From what I have been told it does not have any major changes to the features IF you have been updating regularly from the DishTV website via USB. Instead it updates the backend of the firmware, the loader, to improve OTA updates in the future, speeding them up.

Of course if you have never updated via USB because it appeared too hard, then you will get all the updates the rest of us have been enjoying for a while.

So well worth it really.

Ralph: Well, I'm still having a fair trouble transcoding the SD MPEG-TS to avi so that my low-spec HTPC can play it. AVS Video converter does a fine job but..

Have you ever used Super Video Converter? I haven't used AVS but have used Super in the past (not for a while and not on the T1020 files) and it seemed to handle the TS files I was doing very well. Might be worth a try?

On another note, has anyone noticed how hot this little unit gets?

I've had the odd glitch recently where the picture goes black but the sound keeps going. Only way to get it working again is to unplug at wall.

I was wondering whether it was overheating due to warmer temps in house now and it being recently set on 1080p output. So i changed it to native output yesterday - should involve a lot less processing, if indeed it is a heat issue. (slows down changing channels though as t1020 is a bit slow switching resolutions).

As far as I can tell its the coldest  STB  I've played with, not hot at all.

It all depends on how you have it mounted and good ventilation.

One way is to sick some added feet to the bottom but that wont help if its not well ventilated.

I think its the same loader 1.02  but there  are 2 OTA updates I have seen in the System Settings called S/W  Updates.

I can play most of the material I record (Sponge Bob, AFV etc.) using VLC or kmplayer or media player classic which is SD and not encrypted but admit the PC is working pretty hard at it, so if you have an older PC, it might struggle.

Still trying to find a sweet spot for transcoding. None of the open source tools seem to be able to handle it (everwhere I read, Project X was supposed to handle the files fine, but it still has a problem with the audio and can't demux the audio (well it comes out blank)) and AVS Video converter works fairly well, but fails on about 1/2 the content. Tmpgenc seems to do the trick very well, just trying to find a reasonable encoding time/resolution.

I'll keep people posted on how it goes for me. Shame no open source solution can do it - presumably because they're based on ffmpeg, which can't extract the audio for some reason.

Is it normal practice there be no text around what the new firmware provides/fixes etc???
Anyone know why they are not putting this update on their web for download, i prefer to download and install with a usb stick than ota. They must of also just received certification for ota updates, perhaps on the back of their latest model
I've asked the question of disk in regards to putting it on their web, will update once they reply.
For what the unit is and the price point i got it around 6 months ago, i think its a smokin little unit, its ability to provide power over its input was a god send, as its increased both sig and qua to 90/80.
Looking at their t1050 with an upgrade in mind, put out the t1020 in a room with no freeview enabled display.

Yes its a newer version that is not being posted via the OTA.

Just Updated to 1.22   found no Fixed to the major Bugs with the Media Center, still locks up,  still no sound with AVI's

encoded with MP3 sound tracks.

Plus no Audio playback, ie no support of Sound files, the Audio is shown with the Yellow key, the Photo key works but with the same lock ups.

These were reported to DishTV and confirmed.

I was even told some time back that the Firmware history would be posted on there web site,  that was the week that

V 1.1f came out.

Tuner still has low gain, looks like it will need a new tuner to fix that..
