To be honest my patience has run out with this unit, it wont even switch off half the time now.
Back to Noel leeming for refund tomorrow, shame because it has a lot of potential, me thinks they rushed it to market.

Kambuk: Anyone had any luck getting a universal remote to work with one of these?

Yep I bought a Harmony 300 and it works.  Most of the buttons were set up properly when I loaded the T1020, took about 15mins to set the rest up.  It's perfect for the bedroom.

I tried the BETA firmware (v1.16) for a few days now.

Recorded some One News, Shortland Street and TVNZ7's backbenchers. All playback is fine in general. However, all of them still suffer from random "jumpiness" / gitter, then the audio and video gets out of sync.

So I pause the playback, wait for a sec or two and resume, the problem usually goes away. However, the problem persists and I need to rewind a bit, then playback, then it is all OK.

I left a message with DishTV so hopefully they can pick this up.

Anyone of you having the same problem?

Kambuk: Anyone had any luck getting a universal remote to work with one of these?
Went to setup a HDD with it and found my remotes UP and OK buttons have stopped working.
(pulled it to bits all looks ok no liquid damange but all the buttons on that track don't go so looks like the chip might have gone)
Bought a cheap Philips Universal Remote SRP2008 for $20 from Dick Smith and DishTV isn't listed as a brand with a code.
Tried the 15 min search all the codes and it found one that worked a bit but not the OK button.
Any ideas on which of the 100's of brands listed might work?

Thanks,

Kambuk

I have a Philips SRP5004 universal remote.  Bought it from JB hifi sometime ago for appx $50.

I can get it to work by using the "learning" feature.  That means using the Dish T1020 remote to program the universal one one button at a time.

It works, but painful.

Hey Rojul, Thanks for the suggestion but to be honest I expect somethings to be hard (openbsd/cryptography/rocket science) and others to be easy (windose/linux) , at the end of the day it is a TV reciever/Video recorder it really should just work straight ut of the box.
IT DOES NOT so back to the shop with it.

Thanks for your input though.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
But there's a good chance they'll just do a firmware update on the box and send you back home with it in hand?

If you do take this back don't mention that you updated the firmware should they ask you because you might not get a refund.

Hmmm, I see what you are saying but, it is the manufacturers that recommended I do the update.
Would that invalidate the consumer guarantee act/law?

It should not matter, At Noel L I saw a whole bunch of these units with (new firmware) written on the box. Think the shop updated them manually because they were probably getting a few complains and returns.

I agree that this unit was probably rushed to market, but at that price I can not really complain, I highlighted some problems, dishtv fixed them. As a PVR for the bedroom or the kids playroom its perfect and does the job. As a main unit to replace sky in the living room - forget it.

I do agree , it does look like cheap made in china to me ,
" they " used to sell quality stuff bought my first sat receiver Topfield 3000fi from them in '2004
That DishTvbrand  does not even get close to a brand like Topfield

I find another problem:

On DishTV's website, it said:

- Record two channels and watch another channel on the same frequency

I have Grey's Anatomy (8:30 to 9:30pm, TV2) and Private Practice (9:30 to 10:30pm, TV2) booked using the series recording feature. Then I tried to record Undercover Boss Australia (8:30 to 9:30pm) using the EPG, tried to record the whole series, I got a message saying that I have already booked a recording, so cannot be done. Then, I tried to ask it to record it as a one off (using the EPG), and I got the same error message...

Is it just me or someone else has the same problem?

God, need to email tech support again and again...

This is just me thinking out loud,

Most software to market deployments go> Alpha,Beta,Release Candidate,Release.

Why Dishtv go Alpha>Release?

Oh and also I wanted to add a postscript (not the printer protocol/ just an addendum) to my previous post:

I explicitly stated to Noel Leeming that I had updated the firmware and it was not a problem getting my cash back.

Me thinks I will purchase a Dishtv1020 when the firmware is at 2.0 version.
