I use GBPVR and I haven't updated it in ages. The PC is a modest Sempron 3000 running XP but it does have a card that supports hardware acceleration.

But I never actually use GBPVR to play content. I use a Popcorn Hour which plays content from the PC's hard drive. That way I get over all the hassles with codecs, acceleration etc. I schedule recordings using a browser accessing the GBPVR web server.

It all works well for me an I can record both FreeviewHD using a DVB-T card or TCL cable using a PVR250 card and a USB-UIRT to send channel change commands to the STB.

I use Mediaportal 1.02 for PVR and music. Works really well in conjunction with the EPGCollector for TVGuide. Music is quite immersive mixed to 5.1.

XBMC looks like a nice media center, but has no PVR capability.

Windows MC wasn't a PVR option for my Vista system.
