My folks got one of these from The Warehouse and based on experiences me and my sister have with Transonic I honestly thought they had turned a corner and were better value for money.

Boy was I was wrong.

The issues with this item is that it cannot hold aspect ratio, it blacks out frequently for about a second or so when watching through component (since the included RCA cable is connected to the DVD recorder) and it emitted a hum through the TV's speakers, which has been reported on other sites.

Has anyone had issues with other Transonic items and if so, what did you do about it?

Just take it back and say it is just not good enough for the purpose. Warehouse are pretty good with refunds/credits on demand for just about any reason.

Take it back. It sounds like a defective unit. I got one for my mother on sale (at $79.99) and it has proved to be a pretty basic box that performs well - haven't had any issues with it at all. Close to buying one for me next time I see a good price - to have a go at picking up SBS.
