Well Saturday on the roof.

It was a bit windy - at least it wasn't wet!

Took the tools up there and a can of CRC.

Tightened the F plug where it was connected to the in built diplexer and noticed the F socket was turning itself.

Opened up the diplexer and saw that the socket turning had caused the wires to twist and one had broken it's solder join from the socket.

Disassembled it and took it down to the workshop for a re-solder.

Re-installed and did the obligatory CRC spray over everything (it was windy).

Result:

Now have a high signal on all MUX. Will check it out again tonight (Monday) as another storm is forecasted.

I have a Sony TV and have some interesting signal stats that I would like to understand:

For each channel you get a Pre Viberbi reading, a 5s reading a UEC and a COFDM AGC reading. There is also a Post Viberbi reading and a post 5s reading.

For all MUX the 'post' readings were all zero. I assume this is something to do with measuring the errors post the decryption process - so I guess zero is good.

The UEC reading in all cases was zero.

The COFDM AGC reading ranged from -480 to -500 across the three MUX.

The Pre Viberbi reading on TVNZ was 1.25 e-4 sometimes hiting 8.3 e-5. The 5s was 1.06 e-4 sometimes 9 e-5.

On Mediaworks the Pre V was 1.7 e-4 and 5s 1.7 e-4.

On Kordia the Pre V was 1.2 e-4 sometimes 8 e-5 and the 5s was 1.01 e-4.

What does all this mean?

Glad to see that you probably found the problem and that the whole DTT system wasn't to blame!

The pre viterbi levels show the bit error rates on each mux. I would think that 1.0 e-4 or lower should be OK. (that is one error in 10000, 1.0 e-6 is one error in 1000000 which is better again)

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....
