Wouldn't think so because it's called TV9, not Channel 9.

Ah, that makes sense. The worst part is before we know it there is going to be more channels in Chinese than in English.

Yeah its showing a feed of Chinese state TV CCTV9 now..but I'm getting bad pixelation and drop outs, just getting the 'no signal' half the time. Doesnt the other nationwide chinese Freeview channel show stuff from CCTV9 anyway? pointless duplication..

OK, picking it up here in the Manawatu now too. Yep, just looks like another duplicate chinese channel. EPG just says they're testing and launching on the 1st February 2012.

Even more interesting is that NZ will have 3 free to air channels funded by the Chinese government....and our own government is killing TVNZ7 (the only public channel worth watching).

Maori TV isn't bad, but I suspect the Minister for Sky / Mediaworks, Steven Joyce, will kill Maori TV as soon they don't need the Maori Party for support.

Don't you mean  Minister for Sky / TVNZ,  as Mediaworks in a privately owned company ??

Might be refering to the $43 million loan guarantee made by the Government to MediaWorks and alleged conflict of interest with his past role as MD of RadioWorks.

and yet you'd be moaning if the govt didn't allow the numerous radio stations and there were more than media works to defer their payment, you'd be complaining they had to shut down because the evil government didn't help them when advertising was down due to a major global downturn.  let's see, if you look at the deal media works and the other radio stations have to pay interest on their delayed payments so in essence the taxpayer got more money for that deal than they would of had those stations had to close down.

forgot, tv9 is an asian english channel, looks like it will be interesting
