bfginger: Will ChoiceTV be broadcasting on the Freeview satellite service?

Is digital teletext coming to Freeview?

Journeyman: Any news on what (if anything) will replace TVNZ7? Is it up to TVNZ to provide the replacement or is that channel allocation open to anyone?

the last email i got from tvnz not long ago confirmed that tvnz7 will remain on freeview just with adverts.

Yes, it is, but it is the historic teletext system encapsulated into the TVNZ digital transmission. Plug a Freeview box into an old CRT and it'll be able to use it.
Digital teletext is a different system

Yeah I'm pretty sure it is.  Just make sure you're on channel 1 before you launch it.

I've been reading that a standard feature of Freeview in the UK and Aus is the ability to set EPG reminders that pop up just before the programme is about to start. I've never heard of that here in NZ. Does any receiver box offer this feature at the moment? I assume there's nothing about the NZ EPG that would prevent its operation?

It looks like the left of the top scanline of Prime on the Kordia mux is missing on Freeview|HD. Could this broadcasting error please be fixed?

That's interesting. If you haven't already done so, would you mind posting the email in another thread? Cheers.

Can you tell us more on how the satellite platform is run? Where is the uplink centre for Freeview and does Optus HQ in Australia manage the channels on their bird what are the roles?

bfginger: The Freeview Code of Practice states "It is important that the service is technically sound to avoid the viewer perception that the service offering from Freeview is substandard.". But TV One keeps running its schedule in the evenings so badly out of synch with the Freeview EPG that MyFreeview recordings may be cut off at the end unless a 10 minute extension is made for that recording. Can broadcasters be sanctioned for providing a unreliable service?

I'd like to reiterate this question in the following way:

TV One/2 (in particular)/PRIME and to a lesser extent 3, really do seem to be getting off schedule far to often, very quickly, TV3 does seem to do a good job at syncing up at 7pm on the dot after the news hour, but my observation is that Campbell Live runs over (although they seem to correct this drift by running less ads which is nice and gets it back on track),

However, TV2, by the time the late night programs (9:30/10:30 time slots) seem to get around to airing, often 5 minutes behind (recently I've been working off buffers of 2 mins at start, 5 at end, but I've now had to set this to more like 3/10, and I've still missed the endings of at least one show).  Ditto w/ Prime, and TV1 from my observations.

TV2 rarely (if ever) has live/studio content which could be a reasonable explanation.

So the question is, what can Freeview do to get the providers to fix their schedules/reduce the number of times schedule drift is introduced? (or with an easily update-able 8 day OTA EIT EPG, provide over-the-air EIT updates of known scheduling delays? (although still no excuse, but it'd be nice))

There is a very obvious reason why the schedule seems to run over time during the peak viewing hours,

To keep you watching the program past the start time of the program on the other channel they don't want you to watch
