How many people here are running Ceton Echo as their media center extender in every room of the house?  How has your experience been so far?

I've only got one echo at this stage and running an xbox as a third device. Firmware wise I've stuck with the alpha release path and she plays most content now happily. Occassionaly I notice frames drop when the scene pans rapidly so some content with fast action scene's look sub standard. That said it's substantially better than the DMA2100 that it replaced.

It does crash occassionally. No specific pattern to replicate the issue. It's not enough to annoy me and throw it out the window, but enough to be worthwhile mentioning here. The other thing I did was turn off screen animation as it just looked a bit sluggish otherwise and when off appeared much more responsive.

I have one complaint. I HATE the remote. Its both fugly and awkward to use. The remote has been chucked at the back of the drawers and am using a spare xbox remote I had laying around.

1) yes my Ceton Echo crashes occasionally too, which is what prompted me to ask around.   It is annoying enough that my wife complains about the crashes.  and the only way to fix it is pull the usb power and replug.  even the remote can't recover it.

There are new ceton auto updates installing on it every week, I'm just hoping that one day it will magically stop occasionally crashing.

2) These alpha versions you talk about..  I want that.. I'll google it.

3) I have a fix for your remote.. use this HP one... it is a media centre remote and can control ANY tv volume without switching modes..  it rocks!

I too, shelved away the ceton echo remote and the LG TV remote.. and replaced it with this awesome one.. its less than $20 bucks. bonus!  I bought a handful of them.. they are that useful.

4) Thanks for the animation tip... I might turn mine off too..  I would agree that the menu sluggishness is about 10% annoying.   I'm used to xbox360 extenders where the menu is super fast and smooth.

I think Ceton Echo is currently the worlds best TV technology.   It currently ticks all the boxes that I have for a TV box.  no other product can say the same.

I am looking to purchase a Windows Media Centre extender and am seriously considering the Ceton Echo. It has been 12 months since the original post and I was wondering if the Echo's stability issues have been sorted out? Would those of you using an Echo recommend one?

The alternative would be to build another MCE using an Intel NUC but this would end up being more expensive (although would offer more functionality). An Xbox 360 would be too big for where I want to place it.

Anther MCE box wont quite achieve all the functions of an extender unfortunately. The extender can do live and recorded TV, access the EPG etc, in addition to playing back media.

Recent (feb 2014)) comment from someone running a couple of echos: "I use the ceton echo on a couple tvs and works great(I used the 360 for years and like the ceton better).  Much cheaper, quieter, always on, low power"

Are you running Win7 or Win8 on your MCE box?  I think the Echo had issues with Win8 but maybe they were resolved.

I use windows7 ultimate for my central media centre PC.  it is a $1600 PC, so it has plenty of grunt and extras... it can stream to 3 ipads, 2 cetons, 1 android phone and 2 xbox360's and record 4 1080P skyHDi channels all at the same time.
