I'm hoping somebody can help me. I've compiled the following components over the last 6mth and have just finished putting it together, however I'm having a few problems diagnosing a problem that I'm unable to resolve after 2 days.

Media CaseSILVERSTONE LASCALA SST-LC16M Black Aluminum/Steel ATX Desktop Case
PSUCorsair VX450W
ChipIntel Core 2 Duo E8400, 3.00GHz
Hard DriveSamsung 500GB 7200rpm SATA hard drive
MOBOGigabyte GA-P35-DS3R (newer version 45nm capable)
MemoryCorsair DDR2-800 Dual Channel Kit 240-Pin 2x 1GB
GraphicsEN8600GT SILENT/HTDP/512M
TV TunerHauppauge PVR150MCE PCI TV Tuner
DVD BurnerAsus DRW-1814BLT

After pushing the power button both the power and HDD led lights light up and the case fan briefly starts (1-2sec) and it appears the CPU fan also tries to spin but doesn't. All power then disappears and the computer repeats this process every 5 sec until I turn it off.

Any help appreciated because I've been trying to isolate the problem, I know it's not the power supply (works fine in another computer), it might be my wiring maybe, or maybe the MOBO is stuffed. It's still under warranty, however I really need to rule everything else out before going down this track.

If I can't resolve this can somebody recommend a good place in Christchurch where I can take it without being ripped off!

Any help appreciated.

Any help appreciated

Suggest stripping it all apart again and trying again. Sounds like you have put something (front pannel headers maybe?)  together wrong. Modern motherboards will go into that loop when something is not connected correctly or something is not working. I had the same with a fail RAM module.

make sure you have plugged the little square power plug into the motherboard to the top left of the cpu.
also make sure you have plugged the pic-e power cable into the back of your graphics card.

Nety: Suggest stripping it all apart again and trying again. Sounds like you have put something (front pannel headers maybe?)  together wrong. Modern motherboards will go into that loop when something is not connected correctly or something is not working. I had the same with a fail RAM module.

My guess is the front panel header, fingers crossed that's it.

Thanks for both responses, sometime its the really obvious things that you miss, but on this occasion the square power plug is  plugged in and the graphic card doen't require any addtional power supply.

IIRC the LC16M has a seperate extender for the MB main power cable which has a feed that goes to power the front VFD panel. There is also an ddition cable that goes between the IR reciever and the MB main power switch which allwos you to power on the box via the iMon remote - the polarity may be wrong on this. Might be the place to look?

I can't brain today. I have the dumb.

Any resolution to this issue?

If not, try the following:

remove all PCI & PCI-E cards & HDDs except graphics & retry boot. Look for successful POST. Reset CMOS, reload default configuration. Retry.

If all else fails, remove mobo from case, set onto cardboard -NOT electrostatic bag- with only PSU & graphics card, connected to display & bridge power header pins with screwdriver. See if PC posts. It may be either a fault in the case power switch or a faulty ground through a mobo hex spacer.
