I've installed RC1 to try it out. The bug with the sound cutting out when streaming TV3 content with Dolby Digital sound to an xbox has been fixed, and the infrared driver for the Pinnacle USB nanostick now works. Unfortunately it seems to lock up Media Center on the xbox when going back to the recorded TV menu with a recorded program still playing. It may just be that my wireless network bandwidth is a bit marginal for HDTV, I will have to try it with the wired network later.

I installed the RC last night.  A good solid release and it recognizes hardware it hadn't previously - like wireless network cards).  All new themes (which are actually rather nice) and new gadgets - check out the new "Unsigned Band" - internet radio in a gadget.

Hey, I've been considering getting an xbox as an extender, but have had trouble find a decent site for info.  My understanding is that it looks like MCE, but on the xbox, can it pause live TV etc?  Anyone got a good site for info?

Yeah there's tons of info out there, mostly http://www.thegreenbutton.com etc.

I have windows 7 RC + 3 xbox 360s around my house and it works very well.

At this point it appears that I cannot play ripped dvds (iso/video_ts) on the xboxs but it does everything else natively inside the media center extender thats built into the 360. I can watch tv, pause, timeshift, schedule recordings etc, watch movies and generally do everything I would do on a media pc without the headache of managing a full blown HTPC in my lounge. Very slick.

Happy to provide more info if required..

BTW has anyone else got issues with audio sync? I find mine goes out of sync over the course of a show.. (this seems to be specific to xbox 360 extenders..)

Cheers for the info.  When it plays, pauses, records, live tv etc is it in fact using one of the tuners in the HTPC.  Cause the reception on the TV is average, but the digital tuners on the HTPC rock.  Also when it records TV does it store it on the xbox local drive or the HTPC drive?

Check out TVersity - apparently it will stream iso's to the xbox and do all the decoding etc on the HTPC.

Yes everything happens on the server. The xbox is simply acting as an extender and decoding the stream sent to it. The tv tuners reside in the server and record all content on hard drives in the server. This is ideal for me becaus it means the only place I'm holding content is centrally on the server, along with movies and music and I'm able to access it from multiple places in the house.

I've looked at TVersity previously but unfortunately it's a upnp server (much like windows media player) and serves content to the blades in the xbox 360. What I'm after is streaming to the media center extender interface on the xbox. It worked in earlier builds of win7 but looks like they may have removed it now :(

What is the point?  You'll only be fooling yourself until it starts to reboot every two hours at the end of the evaluation period...

When using that tool for the xmltvnz import, can you use the search function?  Whenever I click on search, media center crashes... :(

@ Unison: I must confess I had never used search, and indeed it crashes MC when I try. I am using the method by pete_the_geek at reven with xmlv2mxf app he wrote. It is very simple, and apart from the crash which you have pointed out has worked flawlessly thus far.
