Hi All,

Here goes...

My gear is at the back of the room (HTPC and receiver)... so, curtrently I have to point the remote behind me to do stuff...
At the moment I am looking for one-of-two options, an RF to IR receiver, or an IR repeater at the front of the room hardwired to the gear at the back of the room via an amplified IR connecting block.

Easy to do with the receiver, I simply plug one of the ir connector block outputs directly into the 'flasher in' on the receiver... However, I want the same 'flasher in' input for my HTPC...

I have a Haupuage NOVA-T-500 which has the small 2.5 TRS connector for plugging in the included haupuage IR repeater. Can I use this input as a 'flaser in', wired directly to the IR connector block? ...

Or, is there a USB solution that will give me an IR flasher input??

Would be nice if I could re-use the haupuage IR repeater at the front of the room, which would be wired back to the connector block, as it's very small and discrert compared to many other repeaters.... but I'm thinking the haupuage repeater may not be designed to allow this...??

Any thoughts, ideas, advise would be great!!! ...before I start making things smoke...

...if only I could afford to throw in an AMX solution... then I'd just go RS232 all the way!

cheers
Shane

How about a small mirror at the front of the room to reflect the IR towards the back?

LOL ....dude, you dont realise the loops I had to jump through with my interior consultant (wife) getting the go ahead on certain gear that might not match the fricken curtains! ...let alone whacking a mirror on the wall...

But anyways... getting the signal to the back of the room aint the prob... it's getting it into the HTPC

BTW.... the haupuage remote (comes with nova-t-500) is the only unreliable peice of kit I have ....so keen to stop using it all together and replace with a USB option...

Philips do an MCE remote that is RF and has a USB dongle.

Depending what part of the country you're in I found this one.

Thanks Dingbatt,
I checked out the SRM7500 after reading another post here.... looks like a good option for controllig HTPC, but not convinced it's the best for other devices via IR...as I still need line of sight....

What would have been really nice, would be an option to have ALL comms from the remote as RF to the USB dongle and emitted from there as IR (instead of emitting IR directly from the remote itself). That way, all the gear including HTPC could be controlled without any line of sight.... The USB dongle having an IR flasher output would be perfect!!

So, did a bit more research on the SRM7500 and picked one up yesterday (PB Wellington)
WOW... what an awesome remote!! ....Ridiculously easy to set up, super responsive and no line of sight! ...other (IR) deviced where a breeze to set up aswell ...Still have a bit more 'mapping' to do for Mediaportal... but all good ...

Thanks for the advise Dingbatt

Hi All,

Just thought I'd post an update....

The Philips SRM7500 is working great!!! ...not only is it provding control of my HTPC without line-of-sight, but combined with Event Ghost and the RS232 plugin for Marantz, it also controls my Amp via my HTPC (RS232)!!

This is better than any solution I was originally planning on... and turned out much cheaper too

Philips SRM7500 + Event Ghost + Marantz plugin + USB-to-Serial dongle + tweaking = Awesome times!!! 8)

....now if only my TV had RS232 or a 12VDC trigger, I could banish IR completely!!!
