Couple of Questions

Is your PC a desktop or a Laptop?
Are you mirroring your existing display, or simply taking your monitor cable and plugging it into the Telly?

Have you tried having the PC plugged in and turned on before you power on the TV?

It sounds like the either the TV or you video card are tossing its toys and not syncing, but the more information you can give the better any help you will get,

Do you have the latest drivers installed? What resolutions does the TV support?

The PC is a desktop....

The guy at the pc store said, just take the monitor cable and plug it into the tv or i'll have to buy a new motherboard and video card cos i dont have a plug for a new video card in my mother board

Yes i have tried pc turned on and then turning on the tv......didn't work :)

the TV supports 1024 x 768

my driver i think is the latest, but not sure sounds pretty old 6.14.10.4396 20/9/05 i'm downloading  14.17.0.4396 but i dont think that will help

What refresh rates does the TV support? Most do support 60Hz but a common issue causing a monitor to shut down is driving it at the wrong refresh rate.

Just be aware as well that the picture won't be particularly good - 1024x768 is not a widescreen resolution and you are feeding this into 16:9 widescreen panel. This is one of the qwirks of many 42" TV's. True 16:9 widescreen is 1280x720/768 or 1366x720/768 on some newer panels.

What is the monitor that you are using before you unplug it and connect it to the TV?
