Does anyone know what codec's come with Win7 that aren't on Vista with the divx codec installed.

I've got a few files that play happily on a Windows 7 machine but won't play on a Vista machine.

I suggest downloading something like the K-Lite codec pack, it includes a large variety of codecs which should sort your problems out

PC: 3.3ghz Core i5-2500, 8gb DDR3, ATI Radeon 5850, 27" QHD IPS Monitor

Mobile Phone: iPhone 5 32gb Graphite.

There are lots of formats the Windows7 DTV codec supports that Vista doesn't.

I'll reverse the question and ask you what format the files are in - once you know this you'll know what codec you need to install with Vista.

there's a beauty little program called gspot (search for "gspot codec") that tells you all about a selected movie file. you can use the detail to search for the needed codec.

Media Info GUI is a good media file analyser (alternative to the old gspot utility)

See What's New in Windows 7

In Windows 7, Media Foundation includes the following new codecs, media sources, and media sinks:

?AAC decoder
?AAC encoder
?AVI/WAVE file source
?DV video decoder
?H.264 video decoder
?H.264 video encoder
?MJPEG decoder
?MP3 file sink*
?MP4/3GP file source
?MP4/3GP file sink

I suspect you have H264 encoded divx's and MP4's that will not play in Vista until you add a third party codec.
