Well, as promised in another thread, I have installed and am giving MediaPortal another shot over Windows 7 Media Centre.

I have to say that I had a slightly rocky start, but thanks to mm1352000 I was set straight and now things seem to be running smoothly.

At present I have a "vanilla" install. It seems to be working fine and I am slowly working through configuring the various libraries for photos, movies and music. This is a little hard, especially given that I am so used to Windows 7 MC, however so far so good.

One question I'd like to throw out to the forum, is what skins does everyone use? I've looked at a few, however they all seem very "busy" and graphically intensive. I'm looking for something a little more subtle.

Are there any suggestions out there?

I use StreamedMP http://code.google.com/p/streamedmp/ great skin, regular updates, highly configurable. The only skin I know of that lists all of my 15 channels in the Tv Guide without having to scroll. If you're looking for a minimalist skin, take a look at Maya - http://www.team-mediaportal.com/extensions/widescreen/maya-skin

Hi - Thanks for your suggestion. I'd looked at both of these skins, however I've installed version 1.2.0b and neither of them seem to be compatible.

I'm thinking that maybe I might go back to a stable release...

Thoughts?

I am immediately reminded of RustyGonads epic speel on media portal, especially the last paragraph

I think Media Portal reflects the good and bad of open source software - you get 110% of the features people want.  50% of them work as they should.  25% of them are in development, and will be fixed in the next 27 revisions, which are due sometime between the next 2 weeks, and the next 5 years, depending on when the development team, have the next pizza briefing to discuss the long term viability of implementing the new revision (c) of the feature release.  All of this however will be discussed fully in the public domain so that everyone knows what is going on.  The other 25% of the features are slated for development in Version 2, which is currently being worked on as a sideline to version 1.  However the development team may or may not continue the development of version 1, depending on whether Lars gets (a) a new job, (b) arrested for drug trafficking or piracy (c) gets a girlfirend (d) buys a realdoll...  The development community however are also working on the 25% work in progress, and will provide complete support using the following page (www.google.com).  Version 2 by the way is due sometime before the Rugby World cup, the development team are unable to say which one at this stage, it could be the next one, it could be the one after...

While it's over the top it's funny because it's partially true.

That post is 2 years old. "Live in the now MAN!" Running MediaPortal with DVB-T and it's rock solid. I run the default skin in the in 1.2 I find it quite good. I've never tried WM7, what's the Online Videos section /plug-in like? I assume it has one?

I Use the Maya skin with MP 1.2beta. Its not as flashy as some of the other skins, and may help ease the transition from WMC

@Ragnor: I hadn't seen that post so thanks for pointing it out. Everyone has their own preferences. Personally I'd choose MP over WMC *any* day. Laughing

Well, I have decided to install the Maya skin. Looks good I have to say.

I have also got all my TV Series up and running using MyTV Shows, so far, so good.

Any suggestions for TV logos?

Ive used a few skins over the time and always seem to migrate back to the default one.  The new default one with 1.2b is pretty functional, not the prettiest but its straight forward and gets the approval of everyone else in the household.  I do have the Backdrop skin loaded at the moment though - I asked everyone what they thought and they said they thought something was different :p..

Good to hear :) There is a sticky in the HTPC forum here regarding the logos, but I am not to sure how up to date it is, in which case I've uploaded mine for you - http://www.mediafire.com/?2rnv80a9lsvt47y
