1) I used to be a Snap customer down in Christchurch around 3-4 years ago and found the speed of their service was great - what is it like these days?

2) I am located in Upper Hutt, Wellington (Silverstream) and wondering what the performance is like up here - manly concerned about ping times for my mates XBox gaming but he isn't overly worried.

3) I'm going to use a Draytek Vigor 120 - will that work ok with Snap?

Thanks in advance for any advice provided on said matters.

Hi kawaii,

1) I'm a snap customer down in Dunedin and I find the service to be great, I don't really test the speed of the downloads that I get but I have no complaints on how long it takes to download stuff.

2) I don't do much online on my Xbox 360, just some co-op Gears of War games with friends and I haven't noticed any real lag when playing that. I'm currently playing D3 on my laptop and it's reasonably stable with pings to American servers of 180ms to 220ms most of the times. I only notice spikes when something goes on with the servers (when grouping with friends from Auckland who are on other ISPs I notice lag when they do so I can't put it on snap at all).

3) I'm using a Draytek Vigor 2710n Wireless N ADSL router at home and have no problems. One of the firmware updates screwed it up but the latest firmwares from the New Zealand site for my router are good.

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

1. I live north of Porirua and find the connection speed to be very good.
2. Don't game online much, so can't help you there.
3. I use a Draytek Vigor 120 and it connects at a very high speed and has worked flawlessly.

Also I would like to add that Snap is the best ISP I've ever been with.

I'm out of contract but stay with Snap for a few reasons. They have great pricing, generally good tech support, a great social-media presence... the only issue has been YouTube throughput which they still haven't managed to perfect... it's less of an issue these days but still catches you offguard sometimes. Overall I'd recommend them to friends and family.

Which firmware modem code did you use with SNAP? Do you know if any particular one is recommended for their VDSL? I've got a DrayTek 2850Vn.

@GeoffisPure: I'm with TelstraClear and even with cable internet using YouTube can be an frustrating experience. I think it probably has to do as much with the ISP as it does with the website itself.

Hopefully next week I'll be moving into my new flat and we'll get the internet hooked up - lets hope that the wiring in the house isn't all crappy or we'll have to get that fiasco resolved lol.

Thank you for all those who gave help/advice.
