Churned from ADSL to VDSL. My VDSL gets sync, I can even see PPP come up but it won't authenticate against Snap. At this point I'm assuming configuration is correct on both ends and that it's my router.

Problem is the VDSL router I'm using is  very new to the market (And has only supported the required .1q tagged traffic on VDSL for 2-3 weeks).

Has anyone in Auckland either got something they know works that they can lend me, or does anyone know of a store in Auckland that holds stock. I know I can get a Cisco from Ingram tomorrow, but that's tomorrow :)

Theres 2 different versions/flavors of VDSL out there and youve got to have the right router to match the type of VDSL youre on.... (or at least thats what we were informed when getting VDSL).

But youre saying the PP is failing, so id say its not a "flavor" issue - have you asked the ISP to reset your password again to be sure ?

Is the churn complete? I had the same issue, although with one of Snap's Fritzboxes - everything came up, but no authentication until the process was completed, I received the text and restarted the router. It was about a day between when ADSL went down and text saying VDSL had come up.

Cheers

Also be very careful if the device isn't telepermited.
There's some devices with the Broadcom chipsets such as the Juniper SRX110va which over-powered currently awaiting on a firmware update.
If you're device has the same chipset it's highly possible you'll fry a ISAM card and end up with a extremely large bill from Chorus.

Do you have a field for VLAN Tag Insertion? You need to make sure you've got a Tag Value of 10 in there. I'm using a DrayTek router and found that setting was required to solve the same problem it sounds like you're having.

Yeah, the Layer 2 communication is all working fine. It's definitely a bug somewhere in the network stack that I'll need to work with the vendor to fix.

Not having any VDSL modems in retail stores was a bit of a shock to me. Why isn't anyone stocking even a basic one?

For now, I'm churning back to ADSL. Props to Snap for having a brilliant support team - Even for the most needy of us geeky folks.

Probably because of the limited number of modems - there are essentially only a small number brands of hardware available with Zyxel, Thomson, Draytek and Fritz! being the main ones. None of these are brands available in retail outlets now.
