Yah I have to say, I don't need any more than say 100 texts a month, but I'd love more data or cheaper calling :)

networkn: Isn't this just (NZ)BestMate which Vodafone has offered for YEARS?

Hate to be negative but I have to agree here.

The first ad by Rhys for 2degrees (which is the best ad I've ever seen for any telco) criticises the incumbents with this line:

Ruthlessly select only a handful of mates to save on calls.

Ironically, it seems this new product from 2degrees does just that.

This latest offer is calling any network.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

but it is only 1 number - which was that point that to get the best value you could only choose 1 number, which is exaclty what this plan does..

but if you want to talk about other things the first rhys derby ad said that 2Degrees then went and did:

"just get locked into a contract"
Yep. 2degrees do contracts now. sure they offer non-contract options, but then so did other telcos before 2D launched anyway

"plan harder to solve than a da vinci code"
well this is subjective but the other telcos do plans that have a set number of minutes to any network. there used to be some complexity with off-net and peak/off-peak, but that generally dissapeared before 2D evenlaunched.
2D were the only ones who have some combination of bonus minutes and 'regular' minutes (confusing), differential pricing for data depending on where you were standing at that time (confusing), and differential pricing for txts and minutes depending on how long before you last topped up. (confusing)

"no contracts"
as said above - they now do this

"call plans that treat everyone equally"
they didn't even have this at launch with the magic topups that gave cheaper calls for on-net orlandline (22c) than off net (44c)

NonprayingMantis: but if you want to talk about other things the first rhys derby ad said that 2Degrees then went and did:

So in promising to break the duopoly, they just replaced it with a triopoly.

Regardless, their ads still kick ass.

The only thing I like about 2Degrees is that it benefits us Telecom/Vodafone users by making it competitive and we get things cheaper. But I highly wouldn't recommend 2Degrees (Unless you're a Caller/Txting person). They're very terrible when it comes to Speed. Switch to a real network like Telecom which is fully 3G.

And then lol at 3G speeds as VF rolls out 4G? :)

kobiak: so basically this means that ONE minute call to any NZ network number cost just over 1c ? :D

bring on 5-10c calls on prepay anytime and screw TXTs :)

Sure, to any number, but only one of them.

To me 4G = Useless at present. I like many others only plan to spend $19 a month on our phone bills. So no point in 4G if you only have 500MB of Data. 3G is fast enough. Need more cap to make use of the 4G..

Their data price is spectacular.  Where else can I buy 12gb for $99 to use over 6 months?

The speed is usually OK but the price makes up for it.

Have to agree with NonprayingMantis and 21Brandon21's comments

2D's offerings have taken a complete about turn from their starting point, not that it is a bad thing as the product offering today probably appeals to a far wider audience than 2D's original catchment, but there is an element of hypocrisy to it I suppose.

I am not 100% sure if it is due to the competition from 2D or just the market evolving but since 2D has been in the marketplace as consumers we are now getting far greater value from the incumbent telcos

Couldn't disagree more strongly. Every time I remember he's associated with 2 degrees it makes me want to switch away from them.

I used to think he was an alright comedian (certainly not as good as his hype thou), but when he fronted that anti piracy BS for NZFACT he became persona non grata.
