As per title really, I don't trust my cheapy ADSL2+ modem to report it correctly and I'd like to upgrade to VDSL but don't know whether I will be within the limit.

Ask them to do a pre-qual for VDSL and ask them to send you the results. That gives you a bunch of information that will give a decent indication of the sort of VDSL connection to expect (be warned though it includes estimates of VDSL speeds\sync rates but a lot of the time these are very very conservative so take with a grain of salt - generally people seem to get speeds much better than the estimates when they actually get connected)

They should be able to do a LSD (line state diagnostic) test on your current ADSL connection using Chorus Gateway. But yeah, VDSL pre-qual will give you the same information.

I could do an LSD and tell you whatever you'd like. :)

Hi Beniore

If you go to our webpage and go through the signup process, when we check your address it actually checks the records at Chorus and if your attenuation is below 10.8dB then we will report a positive result, if above we will report a negative result - if inconclusive it is worth giving us a call so we can get this manually checked it will also check to make sure that the exchange/cabinet you are connected to is capable of providing VDSL2

Anyone can use this, so it can be a helpful tool for anyone to check if they can get VDSL2.

Thanks,
TheRalph

Ah ok, I wondered if that was simply a check against a VDSL enabled area! Anyway, I've got my pre-qual now and I'm in the right range :-D Will have to sort it all out now!
