JarrodM: wonder if the others will respond. telecom already has free calling to telecom mobiles and nz landlines til end of january when topping up $20, so will be interesting if they respond.

And 1GB per day on 750 WiFi hotspots spread throughtout NZ ;-)

Essentially every phone booth.  There's a lot more than you think!
I've been using it for the last month and a half from time to time, it's very useful.

I do that as well, it must look strange.  When I run low on broadband I go up the road (there's on 3 mins from my house) and casually float around there downloading my Youtube Subscriptions on my phone.

Nah, there are 3061 telecom payphones in NZ :P

I wish they all had them. Now that would be cool

My bad.  All the ones I've noticed have it but could be because I'm talking about ones in urban areas and in the city.

Yeah that's a pain.  I'm patiently waiting for my combo to renew.

Not worth worrying over $19 surely

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

Yeah I'm not bothered.  I got what I paid for and just happened to be unlucky.

saeran: Remember when the first 2degrees $19 combo came out? 30 mins, 2000 texts and 50mb?
2degrees used to be the only telco to offer anything close to that. Since then all the telcos have suddenly (up to 500mb when Telecom started their $19 deal) and have continued to slowly push things.
If 2degrees never entered the market I doubt this would have ever happened. The market would be nearly identical to 5 years ago.
It's great to see mobile plans become so affordable for the average person.

Telecom offered something similar called the "Talk Text Data" plan which offered off the top of my head 30mins, 300mb and 300txt for $20, this was before 2degrees. Telecom are actually being the game changers here having launched the first "insane" $19 pack where others followed + competition rocked on.

Yes, but didn't Telecom beat them with it and 2degrees followed? It's been happening for a while. Telecom launched the real game changer $19 pack with 400mb, 60mins and 2500 txt for $19 I believe (don't quote me on the plan specifics), I only know this since I was working with them at the time and were excited to "pwn" the other providers, it's just been going up from here but Telecom have been very competitive. Anyway, this is not the thread but I wonder how Mobile Congestion will work out with 2degrees?

Re the Telecom Wi-Fi hotspots, wish I had the same experience as others in this thread! I'll whip out my phone, go to check a map or load a website and it won't load, or goes very slowly. Then I notice i'm on Wi-Fi, and of course its Telecom. Disable and use mobile data and it loads. Oh well..

On the 2 degrees deal, with the timing it seems to me its just a response to Vodafone and now Telecom having 4G. Need some incentive to keep people from jumping ship..

Great summary jonovw and I wish more people had your attitude towards deals/offers.  Can't be easy for suppliers dealing with 'irate' customers when they offer things like this - someone will always 'miss out'.
