on UFB, both sets of phones we have currently are UNIDEN and will disconnect the caller when answering incoming calls with call waiting

dun think there'll be any fix for this so what phone brand/models seems to be ok with call waiting?
am looking at this

Are hitting the flash button and not the talk button manually?

Look up the manual for flash timing. You may have an option to adjust from 100/200/300ms - It may be on australian setting or other at present and need to be changed.

Now if we could figure out why our phones all ring a constant tone and not ring ring unless you are doing the 'test' mode from fritzbox....

flash...using same phones as when on another fibre provider

Hookflash timers are set in two places, the phone, and the Fritz!box (but not from the GUI).

NZ PTC requirements define these times.

I'll have a look at the settings on the phones to see if i can change it so the lower eg 100ms is better? or the higher 300ms?
also if not accessible from the GUI on the fritzbox, then best to leave it alone?

TBR (hookflash) on phones should be between 300ms and 800ms but should ideally be within the 500-650ms range.

Most good ATA's (and the Fritz!box from memory) allow minimum and maximum timers to be set.

Uniden make the world's worst cordless phones, but NZers seem to love them. The issue in this case is potentially a combination of faults. I'd pick the Uniden is sending a TBR with a longer duration than the Fritz!box is set to detect.

Uniden used to work with Telecom on their NZ variants but that was some years back.

Panasonics are great for call quality, but not really usability or range.

My old philips messenger phone is great for range but even worse for user interface.

I still use a really old doro that I have had for ages. Works with their own brand dect repeaters so I get coverage over the whole house and garage and shed etc, pretty average call quality. Am using it thru the base station into an ATA since I never got the handsets and repeaters working off the fritzbox dect base and fritz have decided to ignore AU and NZ with their repeater options, which is silly since AU and NZ have some of the largest houses around compated to europe so desperately need all the range extension possible off the fritz's useless RF output for both wifi and dect.

My personal favourite is Gigaset (previously Siemens).

The problem with Uniden is they don't build phones compatible with standards. They created a lot of havoc using 2.4Ghz phones when the DECT standard already existed. DECT is a global standard and pretty much every DECT handset that's ever been build by any company is GAP compatible. Once they finally abandoned 2.4Ghz Uniden then decided they didn't like the DECT standard so butchered it while still calling their phones 'DECT'. No Uniden phone supports GAP which is just plain crazy.

The last uniden I had the mispleasure of using also had screwey caller ID support with it often not showing on the cordless handsets or ring till the fixed phones had done 3-4 rings - that's half way to most callers giving up!
