Hi All, 

We are currently on Snap's 30/10 Mbps UFB plan connected in a Chorus serviced area. 

I'm considering upgrading to the 50/20 Mbps which is only $15 more per month, while I come nowhere near to using the 100GB per month data allocation, I do several short burst large file transfers 2-3GB each, and the time saved on a faster connection will be worth the additional monthly fee.

A quick question (want to avoid calling Snap and waiting on hold), how long after requesting a UFB speed upgrade does the change take effect, is this instant, does someone need to visit us to activate it?

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

 


 

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

 


 

- Your general location (or street)

 


 

- If you are rural or urban

 


 

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Hi gmball,

There's provisioning required at the Chorus end, but a site visit is not required. Normally 5 - 10 working days for the change, but let me know if you're keen to upgrade and I'll make it happen ASAP ;)

personal experience, i had 30/10 from another provider and moved to SNAP's 50/20 plan and hate to say have not noticed any significant gains from large downloads; sending/receiving files; general use, while the SpeedTest results gives me 47/45 and puts a smile on my face, unfortunately got very low speeds when updating ORIGIN EA. it's a hassle when the updates are 1-5GB, other than that, I can't say there's much difference for me. Would probably be more use getting a larger data cap me thinks.
