joker97: vodafone AU data speeds are cr@p. they get tens of thousands of customer complaints every month. i suggest virgin. you have been warned.

I was there 2 years ago just before they spent 1B on upgrades, yes it was poor in Sydney but even back then Melbourne was fine.

Yeah I have been in Melbourne nearly 3 years now and it's been fine ever since I got here. Sydney wasn't amazing, but is great now and even has coverage in the underground city train loop

I'm heading to Brisbane in 10 days, if this is connected on time it may sway me to not get a Vodafone AU connection when over there

Last time I was on the Gold Coast (2011) I went with Vodafone and speed was fantastic.
In Brisbane however it was terrible - couldn't get a 2G/EDGE data connection even away from the high rise buildings.

No update on the pack launch, I'm afraid. You won't see it in the app even when it does go live, either. The only way to purchase them, for the forseeable future, is via text.

So long as its sorted by august I may flick a 2degrees sim in my wifi hotspot and forgo the hassle of buying an aussie sim.

Yeah. I got the text when I turned on this morning. One of the links was dead so I had to navigate the main website to find out how to buy it. Now done. Still 1.5 days to go but better late than never.

Back home again now.  2D must have made a profit from me last week before the  roaming data plan came in last Thursday..  Kind of wonder how the plebs get on when roaming when fones don't switch to the new local carrier.  My wife's Moto G didn't and I had to go into the carrier menu and force it and when we got  back my  Nexus 4 and her fone both had to be forced back to our  NZ carriers.

My Nexus in Ozz auto roamed to Vodafone AU  but can't Say I was impressed with the 3G service .  Paint dries faster so after 24 hours I switch to Telsta, way faster..
When the roaming plan kicked in I did some speed tests from my hotel room,

Telstra  Down 6.74  / up 2.55
Optus  Down 6.52 / up 2.16
Vodafone Down  2.88 / up 0.46  ( Did 2 tests here as the first one was under a 1 Meg down.

This time I rather regretted not getting an $2 / day Optus  SIM when I arrived as I was checking this thread all week hoping to see something so I held off.
If these great prepay roaming plans are still in force next time I go I'll use the 2D plan again.
I was going to use my wife's Telecom post pay account  but at $10 / day it's too expensive for the tourist.  Ok for business.  At the old $6 / day I would have used it.
As far as prepay plans go in Ozz we are way better off here in NZ..

Old3eyes

Where were you? Rural?

I use Vodafone and Optus connections every day, and everywhere I go Vodafone 3G seriously outperforms Optus 3G. My Optus phone is only 3G tho, so I cant compare 4G vs 4G other than to say Vodafone's 4G is great too.

For 2 years I had an iPad on Telstra 3G. Speeds where perfectly acceptable, but nothing notable.
