Hello
I received on my phone a text with the number as 4 digits 8277
Don't know if I should reply and how does a text display as 4 digits rather than a phone number or private.
Thanks

A 4-digit number is valid, but replies are usually charged at casual rates rather than coming out of your plan allowance.

20c if you respond/reply, no charge for receiving, according to the short code register

Number: 8277
Description: Bulk SMS Appointment Reminder
Reply Cost: $ 0.20
Most likely from hospital, doctors, bank etc to confirm appointment times?

If you don't know why you are getting it, just ignore it unless you get more and it becomes a problem. The register (list of premium partners) is available at the link I posted above on the 2degrees website. Depending on what the alert was for and whether it is legit or not, replying may be relevant or open the door to further premium messaging spam.

Edit: either way you will pay to reply.

Nothing un-normal. Presumably the content of the message should make it obvious enough who sent it.

If you're getting spammed, you should be able to reply STOP. All replies including STOP will cost you money and do not come out of your free txt msg bundle.

If its a 3 or 4 digit number its relatively simple to trace through and find the sender, so generally you shouldn't get unsolicited messages. Also, someone is paying money to send them as well.
